Sprout Pediatric Nutrition

What I hope to see more of in 2025, if we want to focus on health and preventative care: - Referrals to Registered Dietitians (often, patients pay nothing out-of-pocket for these visits!). - Community multidisciplinary care and collaboration to treat the whole patient - Expanded coverage for Medical Nutrition Therapy under insurance plans, specifically Medicare and Georgia Medicaid. - Less hoops to jump through and fair market-rate payment for Medical Nutrition Therapy services from insurance companies. - Innovative and sustainable solutions to equitable food access - Less "quick fixes", more patience, and a larger emphasis on long-term health goals Wishing everyone a safe, happy and healthy year!

This week, we are reflecting on being thankful for the opportunity to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy to pediatric patients and their families across the state of Georgia. Thank you to all the physicians and advanced practice providers who trust us to collaborate and provide the best patient care to prevent and treat chronic medical conditions.

When we know better, we can do better. We have to move away from simplistic & paternalistic thinking about nutrition and health and recognize the individual needs of the patient and family. Exciting update for insurance. We are now certified non-network with Tricare.

Dietitians are a critical part of the food allergy medical care team to ensure children and adolescents are receiving adequate nutrients for growth and development. “The Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Food Allergy in the United States: Summary of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases–Sponsored Expert Panel Report1 specifically recommends nutritional counseling and regular growth monitoring for all children with FA”. Primary Care Pediatricians ?? Pediatric Dietitians Did you know that insurance covers Medical Nutrition Therapy (the service that Licensed Pediatric Dietitians provide) for your pediatric patients? In some circumstances, the nutrition visits are considered preventative health services and there is no out-of-pocket cost. Working together with a Pediatric Dietitian benefits everyone involved, and access to care across Georgia has become much easier with the use of Telehealth.
