In a few years' time, we will look back with astonishment that the US allowed exports of leading-edge (or even lagging edge) chip technology and wafer fab equipment to China. Semiconductors are as critical to war materiel - missiles, aircraft, warships, etc. - as iron, steel and explosives (and probably much more important). A war with China will be fought and won on the basis of semiconductor technology and manufacturing capabilities. What is coming will be a painful transition for US and European semi and semi-cap equipment companies, but a necessary one.
