Have you filed you Beneficial Ownership Information report yet? It's due by December 31. It's a simple report for most small business owners. You tell them who all the owners and officers are, send a picture of your ID(s), and you are done. I completed mine in less than 10 minutes and I was also creating a client guide at the same time. There are some exemptions for those companies that already have to turn over this information through other agencies like the SEC. And if you are sufficiently large that they think they will have your info through other means like employment tax records. To file: https://lnkd.in/eARmHke3 For more information: https://lnkd.in/edg5xk-g If you need help figuring out your ownership structure, whether you qualify for an exemption, or any other issues surrounding the Corporate Transparency Act, then let me know. We can schedule some time to talk and if you need to engage Springboard Legal.

Are you considering buying a business vehicle to reduce your taxes? Maybe you've heard of the 6,000 pound rule and want an SUV for your daily driver. But that may not qualify for the tax benefits. Find out why as Kimberly DeCarrera dives into the tax code on business vehicles. It's a complicated mess, and you will want to make sure you qualify before making this major purchase. ESPECIALLY if you are an S-corp which would have to follow corporate rules to distribute the asset if you wanted to change it from a business asset to a personal asset. https://lnkd.in/e9f4SqES

Tomorrow is Election Day! I think all of us are happy that the day is finally here and the campaigning can stop. But with the big day finally here, we need to be prepared for potential reactions - from disappointment and decreased productivity to outright violence. Have you talked with your team about the possible scenarios that you could be facing? Kimberly DeCarrera sat down with Andrew Keshner of MarketWatch to discuss what smart businesses are doing in advance of the election.

Election Day is almost here. Are you prepared as a business owner? And I'm not talking about partisan political issues. Just the immediate days ahead. I talked with MarketWatch recently about how I am advising clients to prepare for Election Day and the aftermath in the immediate near term. Have you talked with your team about next week? Made contingency plans to protect your employees and customers, especially if you are near areas that typically have political protests? Also, know that Wednesday and Thursday may very well feel like the day after the Super Bowl. Expect that productivity will be lower as everyone processes what has happened (or is still happening, if the results are not decisive). https://lnkd.in/e5fjrhXZ

It took less than a week for the trade groups to come for the FTC's Click to Cancel Rule. This is the rule that would make it easier for you to cancel recurring subscription services, like gym memberships, software subscriptions, and cable/internet services. The rule applies to both B2C and B2B transactions, since businesses have so many of these hard-to-cancel subscriptions like consumers do. But three trade groups, representing cable and internet, electronic security, and internet advertising companies, have filed a lawsuit in the 5th Circuit to block the rule. Stay tuned for more developments! https://lnkd.in/eYKZTzuM

We know that they are going after non-compete agreements. But do you know about the next kind of employment agreements that the NLRB has their eyes on? It's the Stay-or-Pay agreements. Think: education programs, moving costs, and even sign-on bonuses. Anything that a company agrees to pay to or for an employee in exchange for them staying with the company for a certain amount of time. And if the employee leaves, they have to repay it. Find out more ?? https://lnkd.in/eRt_dvFh Need help to see if your agreements would catch scrutiny from the NLRB? The Fractional General Counsel service is perfect for small and growing businesses that need help keeping track of these legal developments, reviewing employment agreements, and making changes to help minimize your risk. #EmploymentLaw #BusinessLaw #SmallBusiness

For those in the Southeast affected by Hurricane Helene, the IRS offers relief by delaying some of your tax deadlines. Kimberly DeCarrera recommends that if you can still file and pay according to the normal schedule that you do so. It reduces the risk of you missing documents or even deadlines. And will keep you on track for next year.
Fractional General Counsel and Fractional CFO for Growing Companies | Law Firm Consultant | Strategic Business Advice | Board Member | Advocate
Have you been affected by Hurricane Helene? The IRS is offering relief for several tax deadlines in 7 states (including here in Georgia). If you filed an extension and your 2023 return is due October 15, you have until May 1, 2025. Your 2024 returns normally due March 15 or April 15 are now due May 1, 2025. This includes estimated tax payments due after the Hurricane. And includes payroll taxes for your businesses as well. If you are able, I usually recommend that taxpayers stick to the normal deadlines whenever possible. All too often, the delayed deadlines don't get applied correctly and you'll end up spending time later reminding the IRS about these changes. And because we won't be talking about the new deadlines as much, it is easier to forget about them. But if you need to take advantage of these extended deadlines and you qualify, know that they are available. And there may be additional tax relief available as well. For example, the IRS mentions unreimbursed disaster-related losses. For more information on the extended tax deadlines, visit the IRS at https://lnkd.in/ejJZGKKj #HurricaneHelene #SmallBusiness #FractionalCFO
