The Sports Video Group debuted a brand new event last month with SVG NEXT: AI, XR, and Beyond. Held in Los Angeles on Nov. 13, the event took attendees on an insightful journey into the future of the media and entertainment industry and how emerging technologies are expected to impact the sports-production community in the coming years. Chaired by Cosmos Collab CEO/Founder Gregg Katano, the program delved deep into the transformative potential of cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Extended Reality (XR), virtual production, real-time fan engagement tools, and other next-gen innovations. SVG took a moment with Katano – a 30+ year entertainment, media, and tech entrepreneur, international speaker, and educator – at the event to discuss his goal of blending emerging technologies with sports media insights. He hits on how sports media leads in adopting new tech compared to other media sectors, the significance of Apple Vision Pro despite initial criticism, and the need for a 360-degree approach to content consumption that includes emerging devices beyond current platforms.

The Sports Broadcast community mourns the loss of Neil Flagg. Flagg spent 15 years at NBC Sports after working more than 50 years in the industry. From line producing to technical directing, and everything in between, he did it all. During his career he earned four Emmy Awards, and was an integral part in the production of NBA All-Star Games, Super Bowls, Olympics and more. His career continued outside of sports into entertainment where he served as technical director on American Gladiator and The Jenny Jones Show where he worked to help create incredible content. SVG sends their deepest condolences to the Flagg family, friends and coworkers. ?? : https://lnkd.in/enAhM2VS

Hofstra University unveiled their new centralized broadcast control room which is being used to both amplify their game day coverage, as well as train the next generation. After 18 months of work, the control room has opened up in its new home in the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication. With a fifteen student staff already, the goal is to create a larger community within the space and expand their reach. This new control room is created in conjunction with the creation of the new sports-media degree that the School of Communication offers.
