Thanks to Blake St. Onge for having Jim Etzel on the inaugural Sac Fly Podcast. Check it out below ??

Shoot your shot.?Got to! When I set out to start the Sac Fly podcast, I imagined my first guest. A selfless leader who understands the power of relationships, grit, persistence, mindset, sport, and a commitment to excellence. Someone that knows their foundation, taught by parents from an early age to simply do and be your best, daily. Someone that could impart life lessons through authentic storytelling. Jim Etzel, that’s the guy. So many know him for how he’s transforming Sport Oregon, or what he built at Etzel Agency or the countless other areas where he’s made an impact in Portland, Oregon and beyond. It’s super impressive! While all of that resonates, I love the journey of how and why Jim is where he is today! Great story from lumber trader and UPS guy to CEO of Sport Oregon. I came away with 3 lessons from Jim’s Story: - Control What You Can Control: Whether it’s a baseball field or a business, Jim’s dad taught him the importance of taking pride in what you can influence—make it the best it can be. - Leadership is a Team Sport: From running Sport Oregon to his years in the sports marketing world, Jim emphasized that collaboration and support are non-negotiable for success. - The Power of Grit: From driving a UPS truck to landing in the boardroom, Jim’s journey is proof that persistence and adaptability always pay off. Jim’s leadership philosophy is rooted in his upbringing: the lessons of a coach’s son turned CEO remind us that the fundamentals, teamwork, pride, and resilience, never go out of style. So, as you listen to the episode, think about this: - Take pride in the details—small efforts build big results. - Embrace your role as a teammate and leader, no matter where you are. - Push through imposter syndrome; if you’re in the room, you belong there. Want to hear more about Jim’s inspiring journey and his thoughts on leadership, coaching, and life? Check out the Sac Fly episode now!? Link to the EP in the comments!
