Subsea7 + Saipem = an offshore engineering & construction giant Subsea7 and Saipem have announced plans to merge, a move that would create one of the most diversified offshore engineering and construction firms in the industry. The new entity, Saipem7, builds on a long history of collaboration. The two firms, while often competitors, previously partnered on offshore wind in 2023 and on oil and gas jobs such as Türkiye's Sakarya gas field. They even explored a merger in 2019, but now the deal looks set to reshape the sector. ?? A combined powerhouse in offshore construction The move consolidates?40 currently active construction vessels, spanning subsea, heavy lift, and renewables. It also brings together?12 pipelayers, creating the?largest pipelay fleet in the industry by a wide margin. The fleet would be highly diversified strengthening its ability to execute complex offshore projects. In offshore wind, the combination of the two fleets would enhance wind farm installation capabilities, bringing the semisub Saipem 7000 and WTIV Seaway Ventus together, along with a fleet of cable-layers with a strong track record. This could allow the company to execute full wind farm installation projects entirely in-house. Beyond installation, Seaway operates a fleet of Heavy Load Carriers, and Saipem has experience in jacket foundation manufacturing. In oil & gas, the expanded pipelaying and subsea construction fleet could install rigid pipelines in J-lay, S-lay, and reel-lay along with a large flex-lay fleet with global reach. With regulatory and shareholder approvals still pending, the deal—if finalized—will redefine competition in offshore construction. What impact do you think this will have on competition in the sector? #Subsea7 #Saipem #Merger #OilAndGas #Renewables #OffshoreConstruction

CLV Shortage: who will handle tomorrow’s power cable repairs? Around a third of the active cable-layer (CLV) fleet has already been mobilized for cable repair operations. And, with the number of active subsea cables growing every year, the need for repairs will also rise. This will inevitably drive demand for specialized vessels. Yet, no CLVs are dedicated solely to repairs—most are mobilized opportunistically, based on availability. ?How will increased repair demand be met, especially when the fleet is already under strain due to cable installation activities? ?Will the role of CLVs evolve to meet the needs of tomorrow's market? Will new strategies emerge? ?? Join our webinar 'Under Tension? Increased Repair Demand in the Subsea Cable Sector' on March 13th. ??Register now: https://lnkd.in/e9biQNeZ #subseacables #freewebinar #cablesecurity #CLVdemand #cablelayers

?? Baltic Offshore's CLV Pleijel has started repairing the Estlink 2 power cable This critical subsea link between Estonia and Finland was damaged on the night of December 25, 2024. The Eagle S tanker, flagged in the Cook Islands, is suspected of deliberately severing not only Estlink 2 but also the nearby C-Lion 1 telecom cable. Since 2022, multiple incidents have raised concerns about the security of critical subsea infrastructure. In October 2023, damage was reported on the Balticconnector gas pipeline. Now, the suspected sabotage of Estlink 2 and C-Lion 1 adds to the growing list of incidents affecting the region. ?Spinergie detects subsea repair operations as they happen. Our algorithms have recently identified: ??LOUIS DREYFUS ARMATEURS (LDA)-managed cable-layer Cable Vigilance repairing C-Lion 1 in January. ??Pleijel working on Estlink 2. ??How do your supply chain choices impact offshore wind emissions? The supply chain choices you make can significantly impact costs, timelines and emissions at your offshore wind project. But how do you know which choice to make and which will make the biggest impact? At Spinergie, we leverage real-world vessel operations data and offshore wind expertise to bring actionable insights into these trade-offs. Using our Supply Chain Module, we analysed two monopile transport scenarios for an offshore wind farm in France, based on real historical offshore wind projects observed on our platform: ?? Scenario 1: Monopiles transported from the Netherlands using general cargo vessels. ?? Scenario 2: Monopiles transported from China using heavy load carriers, optimizing the number of monopiles per trip. Then, using Spinergie’s Offshore Emissions Model (SOEM), we quantified the impact of these choices. Our model integrates: ? Vessel characteristics ? Activities & speeds ? Full trip-by-trip emissions calculations ??The results? The infographic below highlights the difference in vessel days and GHG emissions between both scenarios. From this we can conclude that supplying monopiles from China results in a GHG scenario that is 11 times more intensive than a European-based scenario. Insights like these help you make data-backed supply chain decisions that optimize costs and minimize environmental impact. Want to find out more?
