Director Nate York and CPO Caleb Land had the pleasure of sharing Steven's legacy and our Spin for Steven event last week on WAVE Country with Dawne Gee!
关于我们
Spin for Steven is an annual cycling event fundraiser hosted by the men of Pi Kappa Alpha Kappa Zeta Chapter at the University of Louisville. All contributions go towards sarcoma research and fighting cancer in the Louisville community. Steven Vanover was a UofL student that passed away in 2015 from desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCT), a rare form of sarcoma. A couple of years later, Spin for Steven began as an on-campus event to raise money for cancer research and to preserve Steven’s legacy. Since 2017 the event has seen immense growth and has raised over $330,000. These proceeds have helped fund the Norton Cancer Institute’s Genomics Lab which has led the way in providing faster diagnoses and better treatments to cancer patients in Kentucky. We have also been able to directly help several local families pay for cancer treatments. Spin for Steven shares the mission of the Steven Vanover Foundation to eliminate sarcoma by supporting initiatives that meet the needs of patients and funding the science that leads to cures. The funds raised each year by the Spin for Steven philanthropy event account for a significant portion of the annual donations received by the Steven Vanover Foundation. Our vision is for this cycling event to continue to be a vessel that will spread the legacy of Steven Vanover and to finance the advancements being made by the Foundation.
