    Spillbox: Improving Semiconductor Efficiency by Unlocking Unused CPU Cores In the fast-paced world of semiconductor technology, efficient use of resources is paramount. The industry is grappling with a common yet costly problem: the underutilization of CPU cores due to memory constraints. Spillbox solution is also designed to optimize CPU and memory usage, ensuring no resources go to waste. The Challenge: Memory Constraints Leading to Idle CPU Cores In semiconductor applications, workloads typically demand substantial amounts of memory, often ranging from 4GB to 16GB per CPU core. Configurations with even higher memory per core are rare and come at a premium. When a workload requires more memory per core than a host machine can provide, the system reserves all available memory before utilizing all CPU cores. This results in many cores remaining idle, a significant inefficiency in resource utilization. Moreover, users often face uncertainty about the precise memory requirements of their workloads before execution. Maintaining exact memory needs for each test is challenging, as memory usage can vary widely among tests. A small fraction of tests might demand disproportionately large amounts of memory, dictating the memory configuration for all tests in a run. Consequently, this mismatch leads to two primary issues: 1.?????Hosts with low memory per core have many unused CPUs. 2.?????Hosts with high memory per core see large amounts of unused memory due to smaller jobs. Users, aiming to avoid job failures, tend to overestimate their memory needs, leading to either CPU wastage or memory wastage. It allows jobs to start on hosts with lower memory per core and seamlessly migrates them to hosts with higher memory per core when they approach their memory limits.
