Cheers, Jeet. When you buy tea from our site, you can tip the farmers who grew it at the checkout. A function suggested by Jeet, right before we turned the website on. The 11th hour idea is the one you want. We’re matching all tips this month so farmers receive double. Cheers Jeet - the most understatedly good web guy. So understated, he's not here to tag. * ?? The big secret in tea. (this starts off gloomy but gets better). Tea is too cheap. It used to cost more than gold. Now it's cheaper than a penny sweet. Mad. Hard work goes into tea. But the rewards for doing each job are not equal. Most of the money is made in the UK. Too little is made where the tea is grown. And smallholder tea farmers mostly live in poverty. Traditionally, bulk tea is bought from different countries and blended all together. It can be bought in a mixture of ways... Factory, auction, brokers, traders. Sometimes, a mix. This makes things complex. And difficult to know what the smallholder who grew the tea has been paid. That's the bad bit done. So we thought "let's start again". > Find a great tasting tea that hits the spot. > Buy the tea direct. > Talk to farmers, understand what they need. > Pay the farmers more. Be open about payments to farmers. For you, a better cuppa. For the farmer, a better price.

We’ll spill - Tea is too cheap and farmers receive too little. Everyone knows that. But no-one seems to talk about what the farmer IS paid. So we’ll start. Link in comments. Know any Rachels? Or Bens?
Co-Founder SPILL tea. | Ex-founder teapigs | We make tea thats BOLD (not "meh") and pays the farmer more.
Are you Rachel or Ben ? ? Today’s observation whilst packing the tea orders is that we seem to be disproportionally skewed towards people called Rachel or Ben.? ? 4 Bens and 3 Rachels in the last 20 orders.? ? So, if you know a tea drinking Rachel or Ben please can you share this 20% discount code to encourage them to purchase.? ? RACHEL&BEN20% ? SPILL tea THE tea for Rachel and Ben.

A recommendation is always better when you rate the recommender. Chuffed to find SPILL tea on the Hiut Denim Co 'Do One Thing Well' list. Because they know how to do exactly that. Their list was put together to celebrate those who decide to 'Do One Thing Well' - 100 truly special products, services and experiences. Take a look.

Week 21 of starting a business... We made the list. >> Short story 273 Orders? 560 Subscribers? 654 LI followers 280 Instagram ones 22 Trade orders 1 Good List >> Long story You know when you go on holiday and you look up restaurant reviews but then you realise ? you don’t know the person who’s written the review and their idea of good lasagne could be your idea of terrible lasagne. If only there was a review of the reviewer. A recommendation counts most when you rate the recommender. This weekend, SPILL tea was featured? in the Hiut Denim Co 'Do One Thing Well' list. And that made us very happy. Because the list was written?? by people who do - exactly that. When we were building SPILL, we visited the Hiut Denim site? more than we should probably admit to for inspiration. It helped us keep our nerve - in focussing on one thing. Everyday tea. Done well. And helped us not shy away from the storytelling. Even if it does involve? using more words than you’re meant to use to get people to buy your stuff. So on week 20, we made the list. And they gave us a quote We are going to have to steal: "The 'Oooo that hit the spot!’ feeling. Everyday.” * Thank you Hiut Denim Co - we are chuffed. Who are we anyway? And what do we know about tea? Louise can’t function until she’s had 2 cups of tea in the morning. ? Two. Made and drunk at the same time. Before 8am. ? Lou started teapigs in 2006 and Sofia joined just after. We worked together to grow it into a much-loved brand. And Lou was a taster for Tetley before that so we’ve been in tea longer than we like to remember. ? But we’ve never been as excited about tea as we are now. ? Because this time, we’re focusing on the tea we drink every day. It’s the tea we drink the most, by far. But rather than getting better over the years, its got cheaper. This means it’s come to taste “meh” and the smallholder farmers who grow it live in poverty… bad all round. ? So we’re starting again. We hope you will come with us. ? Link to story in comments. The short route can be just as scenic. Most of the world’s tea is bought through auctions, and/or brokers and/or traders. You can’t buy tea directly from a smallholder farmer - their fresh green leaf has to be dried and processed by the factory before it can be bought. So, buying from the factory is as direct as you get in the world of tea. So that’s what we do. Photo shows: Freshly picked tea leaves arriving at the factory to be processed. See? Scenic. ?? You can't buy tea from a smallholder tea farmer * The fresh green leaf grown and plucked by tea farmers has to be dried and processed by the factory before it can be bought.? ? Traditionally, tea brands buy teas from multiple countries and blend them all together. And the tea can be bought in a mixture of ways... Some direct from the factory, some via auction, some via brokers or traders. Often, a mixture. This can make things murky. And means that the smallholder farmers, and what they're paid, is often out of sight. So we’ve taken a short route. SPILL is > Grown by smallholder farmers > From one area > Bought direct from the factory > And we'll tell you what we paid Sometimes, it's ok to skip a few steps. ??
