The time has come to say “au revoir” to French Navy Cadets, Alix and Marine, who just wrapped up a 12-week internship with the #SPHERE team at USC Information Sciences Institute helping port cybersecurity artifacts to the SPHERE Research Infrastructure. We thank them for their work and wish them “bonne chance” in their future endeavors!

Access to unprecedented hardware, software, and other resources to support reproducible cybersecurity & privacy research
关于我们
To meet researcher needs, USC Information Sciences Institute and Northeastern University have been funded by the NSF mid-scale research infrastructure program to build Security and Privacy Heterogeneous Environment for Reproducible Experimentation (SPHERE). This research infrastructure will offer access to an unprecedented variety of hardware, software, and other resources, all relevant to cybersecurity and privacy research, connected by user-configurable network substrate, and protected by a set of security policies uniquely aligned with cybersecurity and privacy research needs. SPHERE will offer six user portals, closely aligned with needs of different user groups, facilitating widespread adoption. It will provide built-in support for reproducibility, via easy experiment packaging, sharing, and reuse. SPHERE will build a process, a standard, and incentives for community-wide efforts to develop representative experimentation environments for cybersecurity and privacy research, and to continuously contribute high-quality research artifacts.

ACM CCS 2024 Recap SPHERE Research Infrastructure attended ACM CCS 2024 last week in Salt Lake City, where David Balenson presented a poster, connected with many researchers, and saw lots of interest in the SPHERE research infrastructure. Many thanks to SPHERE advisory board member Patrick Traynor, who stopped by the poster. And thanks to everyone who took the time to connect with us. We look forward to future collaborations! ?? All-Hands Team Meeting ?? The SPHERE Research Infrastructure team had a productive all-hands meeting at Northeastern University to review Year 1 progress and develop plans for Year 2. We reflected on what worked well, identified areas for improvement, and explored ways to enhance our workflows and collaboration moving forward. In addition, we discussed upcoming technical tasks, key milestones, and exciting new outreach opportunities. The team’s energy and passion are truly inspiring, and we’re excited about all we’ll accomplish in the next phase of our work! October Spotlight!! SPHERE Research Infrastructure will be at three amazing conferences this month. Connect with us and learn more about SPHERE at these events. NSF Cybersecurity Summit: The Summit brings together leaders in NSF cyberinfrastructure and cybersecurity to address the community's core cybersecurity challenges. SPHERE Community Outreach Director David Balenson will participate in a panel on Building and Operating Cybersecurity Programs at NSF Mid-scale Projects. https://lnkd.in/gXV8xQjd ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CCS) 2024:? Worldwide information security researchers, developers, and users will present novel contributions on aspects of computer security and privacy, and explore cutting-edge ideas and results. David Balenson will present a poster on SPHERE. https://lnkd.in/gP9dvEiz SACNAS NDiSTEM 2024: SPHERE Lead PI Jelena Mirkovic will present SPHERE along with two other public research testbeds, FABRIC and Chameleon Cloud. Come learn about each testbed's resources and services, and briefly test-drive an experiment on each testbed.? https://lnkd.in/dyrXQKXw USC Information Sciences Institute #Cybersecurity #Privacy #Research #Testbed #NSF

I am happy to announce that the submission page for #WOSOC2025 is now up at https://lnkd.in/e96XK8wh . Last year's workshop was an excellent collaboration, and I encourage everyone to submit their work. Or I shall be sarcastic, and we certainly wouldn't want me to be sarcastic.

We had a fantastic time at the @NSF Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace 2024 Principal Investigators’ Meeting! We enjoyed interacting with PIs conducting research to protect cyber-systems (including host machines, the internet and other cyber-infrastructure) from malicious behavior, while preserving privacy and promoting usability. Thank you to everyone who participated in the SPHERE tutorial and the breakout session on Cyberinfrastructure for Reproducible Research, as well as those who shared their research interests and perspectives on research infrastructure to support their work.? #Cybersecurity #Privacy #Research #Testbed #NSF #SaTC

September Highlight?? SPHERE will be on the road this September engaging the?National Science Foundation (NSF) research community at three impactful events! Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace (SaTC) PI Meeting: We will interact with the NSF SaTC community and conduct a tutorial on SPHERE, co-chair a breakout session on Cyberinfrastructure for Reproducible Experimentation, and present a poster on SPHERE.?https://lnkd.in/gnYCPfYa TAPIA Conference: We will present SPHERE along with colleagues who will present FABRIC and?Chameleon Cloud?- three public testbeds funded by NSF and free for US students and professionals to use. These testbeds can be used to enhance student education, build practical skills, and provide data and computational resources for research.?https://lnkd.in/gnZsazfv Midscale Experimental Research Infrastructure Forum (MERIF): We will interact with other NSF-funded research infrastructure providers and users to share experiences and improve science infrastructure to share experiences and improve science infrastructure. We will give a SPHERE briefing and tutorial and lead a session on mid-scale project management.?https://merif.renci.org/ We look forward to connecting with the community and exploring how SPHERE can empower research journeys!
