Oil prices are sitting at $70 a barrel even after Biden gives the go ahead for Ukraine to use U.S. weapons to attack inside of Russia. Muted oil prices are telling you the world is awash in supply and there is global economic weakness. I’ve spent the last couple days in Midland, Texas, and I had a blast yesterday speaking to a jam packed crowd at the Petroleum Club for the Society of Petroleum Engineers Permian Basin - SPE PB. We took an hour to deep dive into everything happening in oil, geopolitics, and the U.S. and global economy. I put this all in the context of a post election Trump win and what that means. There’s a sense of optimism mixed with uncertainty and excitement in the oil and gas community. Folks are pumped for the energy sobriety that will come with Chris Wright at the helm as the U.S. Secretary ot Energy but uncertain about the price trajectory for commodities and the health of the global economy. I am pumped to be in the field today and visiting some rig a frac locations. I cannot wait to return to Midland folks!
