Empowering teenagers, young adults, and their families to make and sustain positive changes.
关于我们
At Spectrum, our mission is to empower teenagers, young adults, people with a history of violence, and their families to make and sustain positive changes through prevention, intervention, and life skills services. Founded in 1970, Spectrum is a nationally recognized leader in helping youth ages 12-26 and their families turn their lives around. Each year, we serve 2,000 teenagers, young adults, people with a history of violence, and their family members. Our programs include: Basic Needs and Supportive Housing: We provide necessities like a warm place to get a meal or do laundry, along with an emergency shelter and longer term transitional housing for homeless or at-risk youth and those in or aging out of foster care. Skills Programs: We offer coaching and mentoring for young people on basic life and survival skills, such as getting an education, finding and keeping a job, finding a place to live, or getting a driver’s license so that they can transition successfully to adulthood. Prevention and Intervention: Through counseling, we help young people address substance abuse, mental health issues, patterns of violence, and other critical issues that stand in the way of a happy, thriving adulthood. A mentoring program helps build the self-esteem of youth.

I'm Sleeping Out! I wish I could say there is no longer a need to provide shelter for our youth. Although Spectrum has made GREAT strides recently with our Burlington Warming Shelter being open year-round, and our Overnight Shelter soon opening in St. Albans, we continue to see our Grant Funds either flat-funded or decreased. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you! Mike

Every night, hundreds of young Vermonters face homelessness. That's why our team is joining the Spectrum Youth and Family Services Sleepout, an annual event that unites families, companies, and students in support of homeless youth. Last year, some Fluency Friends (Dan Sonneborn and Jesse Kowalewitz) and I took part in the Spectrum Sleep Out in solidarity with the homeless youth of Vermont. There wasn't any jacket or sleeping bag that could shield us from the -16 degree winds whipping through Burlington. We laid our heads down, and 30 seconds into the night - the very unfortunate realities of what these youth face, hit us. Perspective is everything. You don't need to sleep outside to be a part of the solution, but there is a way that you can help us in guiding a new future for those that are capable of changing ours! This year we are joined by two more friends Jeffrey Pierce and Michael Sheridan, and we hope it's just as cold... https://lnkd.in/eThipGCz

Youth in our community don't need a superhero; they just need a friend, and that friend could be YOU! With a commitment of just a few hours a month, you can make a difference by serving as a positive role model for a person ages 12-22 in our community. During your visits together, you can enjoy time working on hobbies, learning to cook, exploring career options, and more! Adults 21+ are encouraged to apply as mentors; we especially would love to connect with queer-identifying and male-identifying folks now, but inquiries from all are very much welcome. Learn more on our website or reach out at [email protected]: https://lnkd.in/eeQ5ZWYz
