Grateful to have joined the panel on the “Reinvention of Addressable Television” at CTV Ad Days alongside my peers from DIRECTTV, Mediahub Worldwide, and Paramount Advertising. With perspectives from both agencies and content providers, we uncovered a powerful insight: many of the tools once seen as the future of CTV are already here, and transforming the landscape today. Here are some of my key takeaways from this insightful conversation: The CTV industry is already very close to full convergence.?At Spectrum Reach, we've moved away from offering traditional (linear) or streaming TV as two separate opportunities, and instead,?emphasize a fully converged addressable TV buying strategy across our 30MM homes. Advertisers want the ability to dynamically serve ads into both a set top box and streaming environment to reach audiences at scale. With a converged offering, brands get to take advantage of the broad reach of traditional television with the precision targeting of digital, including being able to manage multiscreen frequency in a really smart way. The national networks have built identity graphs with partners to better understand their addressable audiences. By identifying linear viewers, they can avoid overlap when targeting through streaming and digital channels. Despite operational challenges, they can now deliver seamless activation and measurement. Michael Piner described the evolution of CTV as a highway that's been under construction now for almost a decade. And the building blocks of that highway are identity resolution, addressable tech enablement, addressable supply expansion, and alternative measurement. When you connect these four building blocks, you have enabled a privacy-focused data flow and connectivity to all these ecosystems. Getting there used to be rough, with potholes, roadblocks, dirt roads and detours. but now we have a paved addressable interstate highway - and we can see the bridge to the programmatic world from this highway. The fourth-annual Go Addressable Summit showcased innovations and opportunities in Addressable TV advertising. I had the privilege of moderating a panel focused on advancements in audience targeting and measurement along with industry colleagues from Comscore, Inc., Yahoo, Blockgraph, and GroupM. Here are some of my key takeaways: The industry is bullish on first-party data and agree that no one has richer first-party identity data than MVPDs. MVPDs have privacy-focused billing data. They also understand household viewing across streaming and linear TV. Data matters but so does reach. Advertisers need to know where they can build incremental reach. Identity gives them the ability to isolate non-exposed consumers. It also helps them understand unduplicated reach and frequency. Brands now have insight into their linear campaigns and can extend their reach effectively through the power of addressable TV.?We also talked about the emerging trend of agency investment groups buying addressable TV as a first priority and complementing addressable with linear.
