During #NationalHealthcareQualityWeek, we want to highlight an important policy development that may impact how #NewYorkers receive information on #LongTermCare. According to McKnight's Senior Living, a proposed bill may require state ombudsman data to become more available and accessible to change-makers in Congress, streamlining improvements and increasing overall transparency within the industry. State ombudsman programs are in place to receive and compile data for #AssistedLiving communities, nursing homes and other residential long-term care settings. Authorized under the #OlderAmericansAct, the program investigated more than 198,502 complaints and provided information on long-term care to another 407,817 individuals in 2022. This data points to a larger issue of quality within the long-term care industry. During National #HealthcareQuality Week, it is especially important to understand that programs like the #NewYorkOmbudsman, are here to help you advocate for yourself and your loved ones. It is also important to remember that #healthcare quality is dependent on families’ awareness of their options. If long-term care facilities like nursing homes are not quite right for you or your loved ones, #FamilyCaregiving, #Aging-in-place, or #At-Home-Care might provide a better fit. #Qualitycare for older adults starts with advocacy, and the Long-term Care and Transparency Act is a step in the right direction. For years, #medicalresearch has shown that traumatic #brain injuries (#TBI) increase #dementia risk, but the exact reasons remain unclear. Now, a study from Lund University offers a fresh perspective: blood vessel dysfunction—not just neuronal damage—could be a key driver of #neurodegeneration. 🧠 Researchers discovered that damage to #vascular smooth muscle cells after #braintrauma is linked to the buildup of amyloid-beta, a protein associated with #Alzheimersdisease. Surprisingly, even younger patients exhibited these changes, suggesting that #braintrauma may accelerate vascular aging and contribute to neurodegeneration earlier than expected. These findings highlight the potential for new treatment strategies focused on vascular health to reduce #dementiarisk after brain injuries. Could targeting blood vessel function post-TBI be a game-changer in Alzheimer’s prevention?
