Traveling over the holidays with an adult on the spectrum? We know how difficult the unfamiliar can be for these individuals because many Special Smiles patients have autism. That's why we are sharing this information from the Authentically Emily blog. Whether caring for your own teeth or assisting a loved one who has special needs, consider these teeth-friendly tips for our national day of feasting on Nov. 28: ? Load up on turkey and vegetables. ? Eat smaller portions of sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pies to avoid overexposing your teeth to acids and sugars. ? Drink tap water or tea: Tap water contains fluoride, which can reverse enamel damage caused by acids. Green and black tea can kill bacteria that causes cavities. ? Brush and floss after eating, especially after consuming sugary or sticky foods. ? Use a mouthwash with an antiseptic ingredient after eating or drinking foods that stain teeth, like coffee, red wine, and gravy.
