The 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg for Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy has reached its midpoint. Special Olympics North Carolina athlete Dustin Edmondson and I have enjoyed running with the Flame of Hope through the snow in Bardonecchia, the big city atmosphere in Turin, and the flat landscape of Vercelli while helping spread the message of inclusion. The crowds have gotten bigger and excitement is building for the Opening Ceremony on March 8th! The Final Leg team is made up of 81 law enforcement officers, 8 Special Olympics athletes, and 17 logistics team members from 19 countries. Thank you Chatham County Sheriff’s Office for hosting a $65,000+ polar plunge for Special Olympics North Carolina! Over 100 took the plunge into Jordan Lake just a day after the Cool Schools Polar Plunge when area students raised over $16,000! SONC Global Messenger Dani Kinert co-emceed the opening ceremony.
