Special Needs Planning Symposium

The Special Needs Planning Symposium last week was a huge success!? Congratulations to Kevin Urbatsch and Michele Fuller for putting this together every year.? They also gave super-important presentations on OBRA ’93 Trusts and on testing and funding 3rd party SNTs (alongside the amazing Ann Koerner from National Care Advisors).? And the location at The Meritage Resort and Spa, Napa takes your breath away (see my picture in the vineyards above the wine cave!).? ?? But my favorite part of the Symposium was connecting with dear colleagues and friends and partaking of amazing food and wine!?Daniel Cutter, CRPC? of Merrill Lynch graciously hosted a yummy dinner where I got to connect with private fiduciary Janette Brooks and attorney Doug Housman, among others.?? ?? The next afternoon Katie Becker, an accomplished special needs attorney from Ventura and a foodie after my own heart, arranged caviar and champagne tasting for us at RO Restaurant and Lounge.? And then we had the most delicious dinner outside in a yurt (!) at The Charter Oak restaurant – complete with gluten-free options for me.? I came home refreshed and ready to dive in for our clients and team. ??

Just back from the Special Needs Planning Symposium, where I spent three days learning from expert speakers about important changes and regulations in this field. It was also a fantastic opportunity to network and make new friends. ?? In addition to attending, I helped represent NAELA National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys by manning a booth—conveniently located near two coaching groups I’ve worked with. It was great catching up with Denise Cullen from Atticus Lawyer Coaching and Kristina Schneider from The Ultimate Estate Planner, Inc. while sharing insights and experiences.

Just back from Napa after attending the Special Needs Planning Symposium and I am on fire!?? There’s nothing like being surrounded by passionate professionals in this niche—connecting with old friends, making new ones, and learning more about how we can serve with even more heart and person-centered care.?? Jennifer Winship And to new connections Kamilla Maciel Tien and Debby Doitch - I’m so glad we connected at this conference!?? A huge shoutout to Kevin Urbatsch, Michele Fuller and their team for putting on yet another incredible symposium. This was my fifth time attending, and somehow, this conference continues to get better every year!???? I’m excited to implement new SOPs to refine and enhance the work we do at Trust & Honor. And, of course, a huge thank you to my husband for coming along and taking care of our toddler. This wouldn’t have been possible without his support!??

Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking at the 2025 Special Needs Planning Symposium alongside esteemed colleagues Leslie Yarnes Sugai and Sheri Sudweeks. Our session focused on the complexities of estate planning for individuals with disabilities, covering key topics like special needs trusts, ABLE accounts, conservatorships, and caregiver succession planning. It was an incredible opportunity to share insights and collaborate with legal professionals who are dedicated to making a positive impact in this important field.
