Our West Aquifer site in Ruwais has become the first CO? storage location in the Middle East to receive certification from DNV. Carbon capture and storage is key to our net zero by 2045 ambition. We’re aiming to capture and store 10 million tonnes of CO2 per year by 2030 – with 4 million tonnes of capacity already in operation or under development. ? Now DNV – a global leader in assurance and risk management – has certified the feasibility of a site?which has the potential to?help?decarbonize our industrial operations in Ruwais. Driving progress in Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technology to meet international decarbonization goals
关于我们
The CCUS technical section is an SPE community engaged in collaboration, knowledge sharing, and spearheading activities dedicated to the advancement of Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), and decarbonization of the petroleum industry. CCUS is a method to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by capturing CO2 and safely storing it in geologic formations so that it doesn’t enter the atmosphere. Depleted oil and gas reservoirs and deep saline aquifers are recognized as promising CO2 storage targets for CCUS. With over 30 years of experience in subsurface injection of CO2 for enhanced oil recovery (EOR), the petroleum industry is playing a major role in the advancement of CCUS by providing guidance/expertise in key areas related to evaluation and management of CO2 storage resources associated with CO2-EOR and geologic storage sites. Synergy between CCUS and oil/gas activities is key for providing technical and economic benefits to the petroleum industry while helping to reduce the environmental impact of the energy sector.

???WA CCS Action Plan Published!??? The Western Australian Government’s?CCUS Action Plan?outlines its vision for Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) in WA. This plan details the actions to support decarbonisation and economic diversification. ???? Some would say the incentives are pretty small compared to the US and the UK but it is a big one within the APAC context. ???Link in comment! #CCS #WA #australia #decarbonisation

??Upcoming SPE Carbon Dioxide Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Technical Section Webinar Topic: CCUS Learnings and Monitoring Wednesday, December 11, 2024 | 11:00AM – 12:30PM CT Moderator: Dominic Pepicelli, Department for Energy and Mining, South Australia Speakers: Bashirul Haq, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals - KFUPM Gokhan Coskuner, Strathcona Resources Ltd. Safe storage of CO2 in deep saline aquifers requires that the injected CO2 is contained within the geological formation and its conformance is predictable. Gokhan Coskuner’s presentation briefly reviews first the technical analysis conducted in order to be able to submit a 1.1 million tonne/year CO2 Storage Project Application to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources. The application was for storage of CO2 in the Basal Cambrian Sandstone and Deadwood Sandstone deep saline aquifers in the Meota East area near Lloydminster. The stored amount is equivalent to Strathcona’s CO2 emissions from its thermal oil recovery operations in Saskatchewan and from the capture process itself assuming a 90% capture efficiency. The approval to store CO2 was granted by the Ministry and the project sanction is expected in 2025 with a plan to capture first CO2 in Q4 2027. Next, the details of the Monitoring Measurement and Verification (MMV) program is discussed. A review of the best practices employed by the four large CO2 storage projects in Western Canada was conducted. A qualitative CO2 containment risk analysis was carried out using the bow tie analysis methodology to identify the threats and consequences of potential CO2 and/or brine leakage from the storage complex. Preventive and mitigative safeguards were identified for each threat pathway. The bow tie method provided a clear and visual approach to key risks and barriers to CO2/brine migration out of the storage complex. The results of risk analysis were used as a guide to develop an MMV strategy. As a consequence of the risk analysis and MMV design, an area of study around the injection site was identified and will be the subject of monitoring. Necessary baseline measurements were identified and are currently being acquired. Finally, injection and deep monitoring well design will be briefly touched on. All content contained within this webinar is copyrighted by Bashirul Haq and Gokhan Coskuner and its use and/or reproduction outside the portal requires express permission from Bashirul Haq and Gokhan Coskuner. Webinar recordings will be available on-demand within 1 business day of the webinar completion For those who attend the live webinar, your certificate will be available in your “Learner Profile” within 1 business day of the webinar completion. This webinar is a collaboration between Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE), Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, & Environmental Defense Fund.

INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR CO2 STORAGE PROJECTS New insurance products for coverage against risks associated with geological carbon storage have recently become available in the commercial market. Coverage for risk of leakage of CO2 from storage post-injection and post-closure care remains a challenge for the private sector insurance. Increasing insurance industry interest in participating in the carbon storage and carbon credit markets suggest that coverage options for the variety of risks encountered may be anticipated to continue to expand. The report "Insurance Coverage for CO2 Storage Projects" is a focused review of recent developments regarding insurance coverage for carbon dioxide (CO2) geological storage projects. It seeks to address the following: ?? what companies are offering or planning to offer insurance to CO2 storage projects ?? what is the scope and duration of the coverage offered, and does coverage extend to the transportation of CO2 to the project site? #insurance #geological #carbon #storage #CO2 #transportation #coverage
