It was great to see Geoffrey Hinton honored with a Nobel Prize for his work in AI this morning. My CTO and cofounder Will Kiessling and I got to have lunch with him in 2017 through Google's AI startup program via Communitech. I was shocked to hear him say that they had pretty much figured out much of the algorithms for AI and neural nets in the 1980's but the computer firepower just wasn't there. It felt like something big was coming. Well, now its here. We blew past the Turing test like it was standing still. Throwback picture to a memorable lunch in Toronto.
