Today's Friday workday had a couple of curveballs including heavy rains and wind, intermittent power outages and downed internet/cable, plus lots of customers and vendors facing similar in various states surrounding us. But on the bright side, it also consisted of some exciting additions to stock, new customers brought in, landing gear components allocated and planned for, and multiple AOG's, our last one for the night (so it seems for now!) having been released to our SFL driver from quote to process in 15 minutes - definitely impressive even to our own standards! Sometimes for fun we strive to outdo ourselves for one simple reason only: to stay agile in being adaptable and always creative in supporting our customer base. And more importantly, in correcting industry wrongs within our power and providing a positive experience for every aviation company, airline, MRO or operator that trusts us to support them, their planes, and their passengers. We would call that a pretty big deal indeed. A wild week with a jam-packed Friday to finish! And already a Saturday AOG in the works. The aviation & aerospace industries are constantly evolving, by expectation but more importantly, by necessity. As the EU continues to set the bar for various safety measures and standards of quality, there is also a cross-industry ban likely soon-to-be underway for components and materials made with PFAS. So many part numbers and SKU's immediately come to mind. Gaskets, retainer bands, seals and packings, and much more....In some places around the globe, this ban or specific limitations are already happening. What sorts of considerations will be made as far as material longevity, strength and compositional alternatives? What are the pros and cons that must be weighed? It is imperative that in addition to quality and safety considerations regarding airframe structures, avionics and controls, pilot and human training, errors, etc, we also consider health outcomes from both short & long-term exposure to materials and parts with these harmful chemical substances. It will be interesting to see how spares and airframe parts are going to be re-engineered and reconsidered over the coming years, and even more so, how operators and manufacturers will need to adapt and re-adjust to new measures and new components. But as history has proven in aviation, that's just what has to keep happening!
