Insurance in Saudi Arabia is broken. I did 14 scans and 34 physical signatures to get insurance for our team. Context: SMEs in Saudi need to have insurance for their employees. 2 biggest insurance companies have 50% of market share: - BUPA - Tawuniya However as SME you don’t deal with them directly. You work with an insurance broker. Basically the middle man between you and insurance companies. THE PROCESS: STEP 1: Identify short list of brokers I reached out to friends who sent recommendations. STEP 2: Select right one and start The broker didn’t charge me anything. They act of my behalf and collect proposals from insurance companies. STEP 3: Collect the documents ? Company Registration ? KYC (Know your customer) ? Health Declaration ? Bank Statement ? CEO ID ? Insurance company Proposal STEP 4: Sign and stamp the docs Necessary documents have been filled out. I signed electronically and sent to broker. STEP 5: Surprise #1 The broker: “Sorry, electronic signature is not accepted” STEP 6: Good old print and scan All docs had to be printed, filled out, signed, scanned and sent back. STEP 7: Additional documentation Broker: “Hey, please sign these documents” ? Broker Appointment Letter ? No Loss Ratio Letter STEP 8: Signing the docs.? ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE WAS NOW POSSIBLE STEP 9: Surprise #2 Broker: “Hey, the documents have to be on your company letterhead” STEP 10: Redoing the docs from Step 7 Signing and sending the final docs STEP 11: Not going outside of the house until insurance policy is ready The frustration is real.
