Interesting story happened last week. I was talking with a prospect about their security. Their main concern was insider threats... In general, this is something that is tough to protect. 1. The user may have malicious intent. 2. The users PC may be compromised without them knowing. The former is a difficult to protect. These employees do have some degree of trusted access. Even as limited as can be. Back to this prospect; I ask, "why are you so concerned about this threat more than XYZ?" They responded with this. They had hired an employee recently. Right upon hire, they received a call from a competitor. The employee they hired, called their competitors and offered inside deals and information in exchange for money... The competition was nice enough to call and let them know what's going on. They do have sensitive data... The employee was terminated, but the alarm was sounded. Stay safe! --- I think it's cool to know where your prospects or clients have their fear or get the reason behind whatever they push for. #insiderthreat #cybersecurity

HIPAA (NPRM) Updates; Still in a proposed state, but change is very likely coming. I see vendors pushing for specific tools or requirements that in reality haven't been enforced yet. The Hidden Dangers of Browser Extensions Browser extensions are everywhere. They promise convenience, efficiency, and even savings. But what if they’re hiding something more sinister? Take the recent claims against Honey; a popular extension designed to help you find the best coupon codes. A viral YouTube video alleges it might not be as innocent as it seems. Now, I can’t verify the video’s claims (yet). But having built a browser extension myself, I can tell you: the potential for misuse is real. Two years ago, I started a small side project; a browser extension to automate a simple task in my workflow. It worked brilliantly. But it also opened my eyes to a darker reality. Browser extensions can be incredibly powerful. A bad actor could easily create an extension that: → Monitors your browsing activity → Captures sensitive data → Manipulates what you see online Even worse? While Google has a formal process for adding extensions to its store, anyone can install extensions outside the store with little oversight. Here’s the irony: Many companies fear AI tools might expose sensitive data to large language models (LLMs). Yet, they’re far more lenient with browser extensions, often ignoring their risks entirely. I’m sharing the linked video (below) for educational purposes, not as a judgment of any specific extension. It’s a reminder to stay vigilant, even with trusted tools.
