Nicole Townsend founded her professional consulting firm in 2020 to make work count for employees and businesses. Bringing together a network of talented, experienced and inspired contractors. Experience Counts, LLC with Nicole Townsend develops and implements strategies that make an impact across the employee experience by strengthening culture, engagement and business results. With more than 20 years’ experience in human resources and marketing, she brings her clients a unique perspective that connects the employee and customer experiences. Her clients span the retail, restaurant, manufacturing, real estate and healthcare industries. Nicole started with Raley's as a grocery bagger and worked for the family-owned company three times throughout her career. After 5 years as a newspaper reporter, Nicole returned to Raley’s in corporate communications. She led the function until 2010, when a massive reduction in force changed her path. From 2010-2013, Nicole led physician communication at Northern California-based Sutter Health. She returned to Raley’s as Director of Marketing Communications in 2013, leading internal communication, PR, social media, events, community giving and the customer response center. She moved onto the HR team after leading the re-establishment of the company’s mission, vision and values. Nicole was honored as a Top Woman in Grocery by Progressive Grocer magazine in 2016. She served as a Trustee on the California Grocers Association Educational Foundation board, supporting the growth of the retail management certificate program. As an entrepreneur, Nicole is involved with organizations that support small businesses. She is a member of the Sacramento Valley National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO National), which nominated her for an Outstanding Woman Leader award for “Woman on the Way” in 2022 and 2023. She supports BOLD, an annual women’s speaker series based in Sacramento. She takes part in classes by the Carlsen Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at her alma mater, California State University-Sacramento, where she graduated with a degree in journalism. Nicole took part in a collaboration book, “The Joy of Work,” published in July 2023 and published her first solo book, “Just Be REAL: A Manager’s Field Guide to Making Work Count for Employees and Companies,” in October 2023.
