Our Fall 2024 Lead United class has officially graduated ??? This incredible group of leaders is equipped and ready to create change in the Tri-County community! Graduates participated in six weekly sessions led by community and nonprofit leaders to develop the skills and knowledge to serve on a nonprofit board of directors. Congratulations to Brooke Chhina (TUW), Christina Elmore (Motley Rice), Kiena Evans-Palmer (Roper St. Francis Healthcare), Emily Hagen (Shem Creek Inn/Charlestowne Hotels), Jason McMichael (Ingevity), Leah Rhyne (TUW), Jennifer Salegna (Raines), Michelle Vehorn (BlueChoice Health Plan), Olivia Vernon (Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce), LaQuinta West (Dorchester Seniors, Inc.) and Megan Yaeger, CPA (Elliott Davis) ?? During the final session, participants had the opportunity to learn from a panel of nonprofit leaders and board members with Deborah Freel (Tri-County S.P.E.A.K.S.), Melanie G. Stith, JD, SPHR, CHHR (Culture Wins), Nina Cano (Cano Law, LLC and Spanglish Consulting) and Michael Samuel (SouthState Bank and MikeSamFitness). Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Bryan Derreberry and TUW President & CEO David Hampton II, JD addressed the graduates, sharing words of inspiration and gratitude for the participants and their dedication to improving our community. Thank you to everyone who participated in Lead United, and thank you to the wonderful community members who shared their experiences with the group over the past six sessions! Lead United is held in partnership with the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.

Over the last couple of months, the Spanglish team has had the honor and privilege to work with the Carolina Family Engagment Center of University of South Carolina to co-create, “A Language Access Guide for Public School Districts in South Carolina”. True to our brand, we collaborated with both national and regional experts in the field including Global Wordsmiths and Lydia Carnesale, while incorporating our legal, community, and communications expertise. We teased the guide at this week’s South Carolina Multilingual Learner’s Conference, presented by the South Carolina Department of Education, and worked with Jennifer Anderson-Baez, PhD of Areito Consulting to present the guide’s practical application to life within districts and schools. This is why Spanglish Consulting was created; to create tangible solutions along experts with lived experience. And to inspire movement towards prioritizing Language Access in our daily lives.
