Jen Easterly has done so much to elevate the voices and call for action for #diversity and #inclusion in #cybersecurity. In 2015 I couldn’t articulate what “2 factor authentication” was, and if you were to tell me to protect myself from “phishing,” I most likely would have gone to the bait and tackle store to buy something for my next trip on the water. I absolutely know how the above sounds, and I’m not embarrassed, but I think it’s important for everyone to know that it is because of humans like Jen, that many of us land here in this amazing #cyber community. Years later knowing our worlds have crossed through John Schreiner, Kim Guedry and many others, I hope everyone can see the action and investments people make in each other, to empower them to ‘do more good.’ Jen Easterly will join other brilliant leaders like Chris Krebs, as plank holders at Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in the coming months, within a decade where borders dissolved through #data and the world became more reliant on cybersecurity than any other time in history. But most importantly for me, she established a precedent where we can all be #defenders, regardless the limit others will put on your growth and impact. As a #veteran and someone who was given a chance to make a difference regardless of my non cyber background, I can tell you that people will still question you and challenge your relevance, for me this can still be an every day occurrence. Thank you Jen for showing all of us that the only validation needed is the belief in yourself to make the difference you want to see in this world. It takes one person to make a change, challenge the way we make decisions, to ultimately get to the part where we start doing the work and stop talking about it. U.S. Cyber Command, National Security Agency, Cyber National Mission Force, National Security Council, The White House, all organizations shaping the direction of the Spades Institute. It was just amazing to be able to bring #spades into the light with these agencies this week. ?? What else was amazing, running into some friends from Microsoft in the hallways at The White House. After some quick exchanges of the amazing things Brad Smith and his team were working on and a few awesome initiatives from Justin Spelhaug, we shared the brief mission behind #spades with Ginny Badanes and Mark Ghazai. We then went to our opposite ends of the hallway and went off to #impact the world, so we could ‘do more good.’ ?? But we had to get a quick picture first. ?? I love when worlds collide!
