Mission controllers at the Space Telescope Science Institute connect with #Webb at least 2-3 times per 24 hours. They work with planners as well as schedulers at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory & the DSN complexes to plan communications months in advance, since many other observatories also use the DSN. #NASA #JWST #NASAWebb

Expanding the frontiers of space astronomy. We help humanity explore the universe.
关于我们
We are the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy. We help humanity explore the universe with advanced space telescopes and ever-growing data archives. Established in 1981, we have helped guide the most famous observatory in history, the Hubble Space Telescope. Since its launch in 1990, we have performed the science operations for Hubble. We also lead the science and mission operations for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), which launched on December 25, 2021. We will perform parts of the science operations for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, in formulation for launch in late 2026, and we are partners on several other NASA missions. Our staff conducts world-class scientific research; our Barbara A. Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST) curates and disseminates data from over 20 astronomical missions; and we bring science to the world through internationally recognized news, education, and public outreach programs. We value our diverse workforce and civility in the workplace, and seek to be an example for others to follow. OUR STRATEGIC GOALS ? Excel in the science operations of NASA's current and future astrophysics flagship missions. ? Advance state-of-the-art astronomical research, archives, and tools for scientific discovery. ? Make the world's astronomical information accessible to all.

Before the James Webb Space Telescope launched, the very early universe was a time and place shrouded in mystery. Astronomers and engineers developed Webb specifically to reveal the universe’s origins and understand how our story began. In this video,...

Even though Stephan’s Quintet is called a quintet, only four of the galaxies here are close together (about 290 million light-years away from Earth). The fifth and leftmost galaxy, NGC 7320, is only about 40 million light-years away: https://bit.ly/42MkBik #astronomy #JWST #NASAWebb #StephansQuintet #galaxies

Space Telescope Science Institute astronomer Dr. Carol Christian was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Christian, a Hubble Space Telescope outreach project scientist, was honored for exceptional leadership in bringing astronomy and astronomy images to a broader range of the public, notably the seeing impaired:?https://bit.ly/4hFWtSj #AAAS #STScI #Hubble #astronomy

This visualization examines the three-dimensional structure of Herbig-Haro 49/50 (HH 49/50) as seen in near- and mid-infrared light by the James Webb Space Telescope. HH 49/50 is an outflow produced by the jet of a nearby still-forming star in the...

Amidst a sea of distant galaxies, there’s a surprising standout. An unassuming red dot known as JADES-GS-z13-1 doesn’t look like much, but it surprised astronomers. Observations from the James Webb Space Telescope showed bright hydrogen emission. This galaxy existed at a time when the early universe was suffused with a thick fog of neutral hydrogen, which should have absorbed the galaxy’s light. Learn why this discovery has ramifications for the universe’s early history: https://lnkd.in/eUikcSZ2 #SpaceNews #NASAWebb #JWST #JamesWebbSpaceTelescope #galaxies #astronomy #EarlyUniverse
