The UK has a golden opportunity to lead in clean energy innovation, but only if we continue to invest in it. We do not yet have all the technology solutions needed to fully decarbonise our energy system and meet the growing demand. Innovation is essential, and government backing plays a critical role in accelerating the transition and providing our energy security. The Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP) has already positioned the UK as a global leader in Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP)—a technology with the potential to deliver affordable, dispatchable, low-carbon energy at scale. The facts: ?? For every ￡1 invested in NZIP, startups have attracted ￡2.40 in follow-on private investment ?? 600+ projects funded, supporting over 5,500 jobs ?? SBSP alone could save ￡4 billion per year in energy system costs for every 8GW installed by optimising the grid through its flexible power delivery and reducing overbuilding Space Solar has joined over 120 climate innovators in calling on the UK Government to renew NZIP. Without continued investment, we risk losing momentum just as clean energy solutions are proving their value. This is about Net Zero and about economics.? The sun and space can power our future.
