Today some of our board members attended a volunteer event with COCOA BEACH ELKS LODGE 2387 CHARITABLE TRUST. This event was aligned with our focus on supporting veterans this year. Since 2016 the Cocoa Beach Elks Lodge 2387 has taken over 525 homeless veterans shopping for Welcome Home kits.?Twice a month, a group of Elks gather at the Dollar General store at 595 N. Atlantic Ave. in Cocoa Beach. They are each paired with a veteran and shop for $400 worth of items needed to set up their household including paper products, kitchen supplies, personal hygiene items, and bed and bath linens. The store manager has been more than supportive of the efforts and is greatly appreciative. Mission completed! ??? Our mission for today's meeting (and we chose to accept it) featured Dr. Richard J Addante, who delivered a captivating, research-backed presentation on teamwork and leadership lessons he learned while participating in NASA’s largest psychological studies of teams living and working together in confinement of space capsules. We learned about the importance of one's mindset and "leading from behind" in creating a successful team environment. We are grateful he was able to take the time to join us this afternoon. Dr. Addante started his own consulting company called Neurocog Analytics, LLC, which provides a range of services from analyses of scientific data, consumer data, research, and consulting for leadership and teamwork/training. Please join us next week for our monthly meeting, where Dr. Richard J Addante will share with us "Teamwork Lessons Learned from NASA Missions for Mars". This presentation will share insights from NASA’s largest psychological studies of teams living and working together in confinement of space capsules to understand how humans overcome barriers for success on long duration spaceflight missions to Mars. It will offer crossover integrations of topics ranging teamwork, leadership, followership, self-care, and ethics, with the overall goal of informing how people can live and work together more effectively towards shared mission success. Richard J. Addante, PhD, Associate Professor of Psychology and Biomedical Engineering, Florida Institute of Technology Tenured professor in the Departments of Psychology and Biomedical Engineering at Florida Tech. Earned a BA in Psychology from The College of New Jersey and a PhD in Neuroscience at UC Davis as a Diversity Fellow of the American Psychological Association, then completed a Post-doctoral Fellowship in Neuroimaging with University of Texas at Dallas with UT-Southwestern Medical School. He was a Principle Investigator of astronaut cognition on the NASA NEEMO Mission, and a Mission Specialist on the crew of the NASA HERA Mission (Human Exploration Research Analog) and is a Captain in the US Air Force Auxiliary as a commercial multi-engine pilot. Scientific research work has been published across some of the top international research journals, and has focused on human memory, brain states, and metacognition, resulting in discoveries such as a new kind of human memory and the first neural correlates of the Dunning-Kruger Effect. On the Editorial Board of Neuroimage and is an Associate Editor of Frontiers in Psychology: Neuropsychology, and a Fellow of the Psychonomics Society, and on the Board of Directors of the Space Coast Discovery Center for children with special needs. https://lnkd.in/dHxjFd9T
