Check out my thoughts on professional practice!
Professional Practice at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. I took this class exactly 8 years ago. It was surreal to come back and present on my progress since starting my own practice. I wanted to challenge my fellow future alumni with some "realities" in our profession and asked them to consider a very important question "what is your goal"? One thing I learned is that I need to sell - sell myself, sell my work, sell my values. I also learned that "selling" is not a dirty word because if you are authentic and you care and your goal is to make a positive difference, selling is really just talking about what matters to you. Our profession has unfortunately devalued itself in the name of all that is holy - DESIGN. We offer so much more, and I wanted to point out that ENABLING design is more complicated and more important than the design itself. For those interested in a ten minute, very candid presentation, see link in comments to the YouTube video. Thank you Jeffry Burchard for inviting me, for being my thesis advisor and continuing to support my journey. It was truly a pleasure to share the stage with Kofi Akakpo and Daniel Kwon, I am very humbled to be in the company of such excellent professionals. #architecture #practice #GSD #professionalpractice #business
