LEADERSHIP STORY “You could feel that it was a family, and a very tight, kind of closed family as well.” Lieutenant General Tom Trask, USAF (Ret.) started his career thinking he’d only serve a few years, but 30 years later, he had flown in the invasion of Panama, the Gulf War, and Kosovo, eventually helping stand up the CV-22 schoolhouse. After an MH-60 crashed in Afghanistan, killing a crew of six and leaving behind six children, SOWF stepped in to help the families provide education to those children. Today, as an ambassador for?#SOWF?he continues to serve, ensuring the next generation of heroes and their families receive the support they deserve through our?#EnduringPromise. Danaya Olmstead-Kauwe, the surviving spouse of Army Staff Sergeant Paul Olmstead, shared a touching testimonial with us about how this tuition assistance is helping their two children — Alexa and Tavian. "[My children] have had the opportunity to be in the school play, perform in musical solos, have interactive field trips in the community and receive personalized education for their learning ability," Danaya wrote. "They love learning! Being able to get them in a school to promote such an individual and interactive learning experience has made such a difference in their reading level, social skills and ability to learn new concepts. BEYOND GRATEFUL ?? We can't even begin to express how much gratitude we have for the Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund for the continuous support #SOWF receives. In late January, SOWF President & CEO Major General (Ret) Clay Hutmacher was able to attend the 2025 Program Partners Collaborative to show our appreciation while meeting with the organization's board members and staff. This donation will go toward continuing our #EnduringPromise to provide full education opportunities, #CradleToCareer, to the surviving children of fallen Special Operators, deceased SOF spouses, and all Medal of Honor Recipients, as well as financial assistance to the severely wounded, ill, and injured SOF Warriors. The #SOWF team is extremely proud of Allie Quick, the surviving daughter of Army Sergeant First Class Zachary Quick, for graduating from the University of Maryland with a degree in Communication Studies. She is now exploring career opportunities in social media/marketing — we are so excited to see what the future holds! Army Sergeant First Class Zachary Quick lost his life in 2015 while serving with SOCOM.
