"Today,?more than half?of the mineral deposits needed for a global energy transition — including?lithium,?cobalt,?copper, and?nickel?to make things like batteries and solar panels — are found near or beneath Indigenous lands." according to a recent article from Grist. In order to access these resources, governments and companies MUST respect free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC), but will they? Centering Tribal energy sovereignty and Indigenous voices within the just energy future.
关于我们
Sovereign Energy, a Pueblo woman-operated and Indigenous-led non-profit organization, recognizes Indigenous voices and leadership as paramount to a just, equitable, and clean energy future. The ongoing legacy of energy extraction, exploitation, and political barriers to Tribal energy sovereignty continue to interfere, disrupt, and cause harm to Tribal Nation building and Indigenous communities. Sovereign Energy seeks to change the status quo by building the individual and collective power of Indigenous communities to lead the way toward a regenerative energy future, create meaningful action toward climate goals, and ignite reparations for injustices caused by harmful energy development practices.

This is your daily reminder that Tribal Nations as #sovereign entities are rights-holders, not stakeholders. ????????

Bipartisan legislation introduced by Sens. Brian Schatz and John Curtis seeks to level the playing field for tribal communities in energy development, Tribal Business News reports. The Tribal Energy Fairness Act would eliminate cost-match requirements that often prevent tribes from accessing federal energy programs and remove bureaucratic hurdles for Grid Resilience funding. "Energy production has long been vital to the modern Navajo economy," said Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren, who supports the measure.

A Tribal solar success story to brighten your day ??
?? A Powerful Step Toward Energy Sovereignty ?? Yesterday, our all-Lakota solar crew completed a ground-mounted solar array install that will power the three sustainable dome homes we built for families in the Wakpamni District of Pine Ridge Reservation. ??????? This isn't just about solar panels. This is about reclaiming power — literally and spiritually. This is about building with purpose, healing through sustainability, and proving that Indigenous-led solutions are the future. At the heart of this project is Marie Kills Warrior, our Solar Technologies Manager. Marie has led this project with strength, grace, and unwavering commitment. She is a force. A leader. A true warrior. ???? Her leadership doesn’t just light up homes — it lights the way for the next generation of Native solar professionals. To our crew: you are the backbone of this movement. You are helping build a better future, one panel, one wire, one home at a time. We are so proud of the work you've done — and more importantly, the way you've done it: with heart, with honor, and with the spirit of your ancestors guiding each step. ?? If you believe in this work — if it moved you even a little — please like, share, and donate to help us keep building. Your support helps us create jobs, train Native workers, and bring clean, renewable energy to families who need it most. ?? https://lnkd.in/e8SMNBtp #EnergySovereignty #IndigenousLed #SustainableFuture #RedCloudRenewable #LakotaSolarWarriors #PineRidge #BuildTheChange

Across the United States, low-income households spend nearly 3X more of their income on energy bills than higher-income families. The Solar for All program was designed to change this reality, bringing savings and stability to one million households historically excluded from clean energy benefits. With potential savings of $400 annually per household and increased resilience against outages, recent funding freezes threaten the program's success just as communities see the first success stories emerge. Read our latest blog to see what we're losing and how you can support energy justice in your community: https://lnkd.in/e8VfQspX #EnergyJustice #EnergyResilience #SolarPower #SolarForAll #CleanEnergy

As extreme weather intensifies and disrupts communities' power supply, frontline communities are disproportionately affected, often facing extended power outages. With federal support for climate resilience in question, community-owned energy solutions are increasingly important. From how local solar and storage systems provide resilience to sharing frameworks for community ownership, our latest blog explores community microgrids as a practical solution for these communities to build resilience and move closer to achieving energy justice. As we welcome the Spring Equinox, we also welcome a time of hope, reawakening, balance, and new beginnings. This significant day marks equality between night and day and the beginning of the planting season. For Pueblo and Tribal Nations in New Mexico, this period holds deep cultural and spiritual significance. This Spring Equinox, we invite you to reflect on the ways we can all honor balance in our lives and communities. By aligning our efforts with the rhythms of the earth, we can cultivate a future grounded in harmony, respect, and sustainability.
