Recently the Southwest Mission Acceleration Center (MAC) team supported the team at the Fighter Country Sparks Cell Luke Air Force Base to deliver a problem sourcing seminar. This event was the first of many engagements that will allow the Spark Cell team to identify the technology-based challenges facing all airmen. Thank you to David Adcock, Spark Cell Manager, for inspiring us with your vision for empowering Airmen-driven innovation and for including our team in your plans to grow the Spark Cell's impact. This is just the beginning. With more workshops like this, the SWMAC aims to drive solutions to increasingly complex technological challenges across the Air Force and the United States Department of Defense. The Southwest Mission Acceleration Center is the center for defense innovation in the Southwest. As a part of the National network of MACs, our goal is to remove barriers to engagement and accelerate defense innovation for startups, academic institutions, and mission partners across the Department of Defense. Launching with programming from the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and support from the Arizona Defense & Industry Coalition (AZDIC), the MAC allows for both formal collaboration and the serendipitous innovation or “coffee pot collaboration” that comes from bringing people together.

Last week Drew Trojanowski had the opportunity to speak to over 80 Japanese officials, delegates and companies from the semiconductor and aerospace industry. His talk showcased the potential future of Arizona and the impact of defense. During the event the delegation also gained valuable insights from leaders at Intel Corporation, Microchip Technology Inc., NXP Semiconductors, and TSMC about the benefits of onshoring the semiconductor supply chain to Arizona. Additionally, they learned about the contributions of academic partners like Arizona State University, University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Maricopa Community Colleges in developing a skilled workforce and driving research and development.
