  • 🚧 Is Hydrogen Gassing Putting Your Transformers at Risk?🚧 With transformer lead times and costs at record highs, finding ways to extend the life of your existing fleet is more critical than ever. For over 20 years, many users of layer-wound rectangular transformers have faced a persistent challenge: excessive hydrogen gassing—often exceeding IEEE guidelines. While some have tried standard oil degassing methods, the results are often temporary, with hydrogen levels dropping initially but returning over time. If left unaddressed, high combustible gas levels increase the risk of internal faults, which could lead to significant equipment damage and safety hazards. If your transformers have a history of hydrogen gassing, SWE’s technical experts can help. Our proven remediation process delivers long-term results and can typically be completed on-site within 72 hours, minimizing downtime. Ready to take action? Contact Ron Nicholas, VP & GM of Switchgear & Field Services, to learn more. 📧 ron.nicholas@swelectric.com

Thanks to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our team, we’ve made tremendous strides in creating a safer workplace for everyone. 2024 Safety Achievements: ✅ 500,000+ hours worked without a recordable or lost-time injury by full-time SWE employees ✅ 850,000 miles driven accident-free ✅ 1,200 training hours completed with 100% on-time participation These milestones are a testament to the culture of safety we’ve built together. But our work doesn’t stop here! In 2025, we remain committed to: 🔸 Strengthening Communication – Encouraging open dialogue to identify and address risks before they escalate. 🔸 Emphasizing Training & Preparedness – Staying proactive with continuous learning and up-to-date safety practices. 🔸 Looking Out for One Another – Reporting hazards, encouraging safe practices, and holding each other accountable. • SGB-SMIT expands its footprint in the United States and acquires electrical component manufacturer & service provider, Southwest Electric Co. SGB-SMIT Group and Southwest Electric have signed an agreement for the purchase of Southwest Electric Co., with closing expected in the first quarter of 2025. Southwest Electric Co., founded in 1946 and based in Oklahoma City (OK), with facilities in Tulsa (OK), Nashville (TN) and Louisville (OH) specializes in electrical components, transformers, and services for sectors like oil & gas, utilities, wind power, and data centers. SGB-SMIT, a leading independent transformer manufacturer, has been serving the US market for decades through its affiliate OTC in Louisville (OH). This acquisition will enhance SGB-SMIT's geographic reach and local manufacturing capabilities in the United States, further contributing to profitable growth. The acquisition aligns well with both companies, expanding SGB-SMIT’s service staff and complementing the product portfolio by special transformer and switchgear manufacturing. #SGBSMIT #Southwestelectricco #SWE #acquisition #transformers #fieldservice #switchgear

  • Is hydrogen gassing putting your transformers at risk? With lead times and pricing of new and used transformers at an all-time high, it is essential that everyone identifies other viable potential alternatives to extend the life of transformers in their current fleet. Over the past 20+ years, many end users of layer-wound rectangular transformers have encountered a common issue: the generation of hydrogen gassing at levels well exceeding IEEE gassing guidelines. While some users have attempted to mitigate this matter by degassing the transformers using standard oil degassing processes, the results have been inconsistent. In many cases, the hydrogen levels were temporarily reduced, but in many instances, the gasses reappeared in the oil. If the equipment has high combustible gasses and is to sustain an internal fault, it has the potential to cause a great deal of equipment damage and harm to anyone who may be in the vicinity. If your fleet includes layer-wound or other transformers with a history of hydrogen gassing, contact SWE technical experts for a proven remediation solution. Our high-success-rate process can typically be completed in the field within 72 hours, minimizing downtime. Looking to get started? Reach out to our VP & GM of Switchgear & Field Services, Ron Nicholas, to learn more! ron.nicholas@swelectric.com #swelectricco #swe #hydrogengassing #transformers
