Before this month ends, we want to highlight an incredible experience we had at the Southwest Detroit Business Association for our Fall Into Capital Pitch Competition! Thanks Laura Chavez-Wazeerud-Din & Kristy Stanford for your hospitality!!!! Hosting the event in Southwest Detroit allowed us to bring much-needed attention to this vibrant part of the city, and while the competition was open to all, we were thrilled to see so many local businesses from this community take part. We had 10 amazing finalists, each showcasing their passion, innovation, and commitment to their businesses. We are so proud of every one of them, and in our eyes, they’re all winners! ? One highlight? The stunning addition of Alebrijes sculptures along the corridor! Detroit recently unveiled five stunning Alebrijes sculptures on Bagley Street, created by local artist Elton Monroy Duran. Inspired by Mexican folk art, these colorful, car-part-made sculptures celebrate the contributions of the Latino community in Detroit. Detroit Cristo Rey High School’s President Christopher Lynch, students, and Southwest Detroit Business Association CEO Laura Chavez-Wazeerud-Din attended the event, highlighting the power of art and culture in strengthening community ties. Sooo on today we want to highlight a few awesome founders and send a huge congratulations to the winners of our Fall Into Capital Pitch Competition! These inspiring entrepreneurs are making a powerful impact in Detroit, each with a unique vision for change: CASITA Title ($3,000 Winner) – Founded by Sonya Rivas, CASITA Title is Detroit's first Latino-owned title company. Sonya is bridging the real estate literacy gap by providing bilingual support for homebuyers, title deeds, and fraud prevention in Wayne County. MOTORCITY Dance Studio ($2,000 Winner) – Founded by Benito "Mav-One" Vasquez, this studio has been empowering Detroit’s youth through hip hop for 8 years. Benito is dedicated to preserving Detroit’s rich culture by investing in artistic spaces and fostering a community where future generations can give back. The American RAC ($1,000 Winner) – Co-founded by London McMurray, this initiative is dedicated to reducing accidental shootings and firearm thefts through "Operation Rac it up." They provide free firearm storage devices and safety education in collaboration with local police departments. DDF & Our Venture 313 team is excited to support these incredible businesses on their journey, and we can’t wait to see the positive change they’ll continue to bring to our community! ?? Me and my baby girl ran our first 5k on behalf of Kapnick Insurance as we were one of the proud sponsors for the 15th annual Run of the Dead. This run supports COMPáS Detroit, which provides year-round, youth focused arts, recreation, and educational opportunities in Southwest Detroit. It was freezing, but it was absolutely worth it! Kudos to Laura Chavez-Wazeerud-Din and her team for putting on a wonderful event. #TeamKapnick #SouthwestDetroit
