About today! An absolute pleasure to be among community leaders from across the Metro Detroit area to recognize the Southwest Detroit Business Association 2024 nominees who were honored for their contributions, service and commitment to the Southwest Detroit Community. It takes a village to empower a community and with the help of today’s extraordinary sponsors and donors, SDBA will be able to help support BIPOC, immigrant and Latina businesses, while aiding in the cultural market expansions in our community, provide resources for the development of new business, help with renovation and improvement of existing businesses, support economic stability and sustainability, while keeping the entrepreneurial spirit alive throughout our communities. Congratulations to all the honorees and a special thank you to Laura Chavez-Wazeerud-Din | President and CEO Southwest Detroit Business Association for her extraordinary leadership and commitment to helping create a vibrant and inclusive community. Thank you to the Deputy Mayor of Detroit @Todd A. Bettison for addressing the issues and concerns I raised about education initiatives, support for justice impacted individuals and their families and the importance of not just creating more affordable housing, but ensuring equal accessibility and equity in the new developments taking place through Metro Detroit! Moments like these are priceless!

The past two months at Smart have been truly fulfilling! Playing a vital role in educating the region about our services and driving economic growth for businesses has been an honor. Smart's dedication to community engagement, especially in preventing social isolation among seniors and individuals with disabilities, is remarkable. Exciting news - Smart is marking National Hispanic Heritage Month by introducing new SMART buses, showcasing our commitment to community engagement. I had the privilege of hearing Laura Chavez-Wazeerud-Din-Din Chavez's inspiring story at the event. Congratulations once again to Laura, a true example of persistence and dedication to Southwest Detroit. Furthermore meeting the amazing artist Julianna Sanroman was impressive as art is a true self-care which also brings people of different backgrounds together.
