Earlier this month, Southway had the privilege of joining over 100 volunteers, including our client Bon Secours, to build a new playground for the students of Mary Ann Winterling Elementary School in West Baltimore. This inspiring project was led by KABOOM! in partnership with Baltimore City Public Schools, LifeBridge Health, and the West Baltimore Renaissance Foundation. In just one day, we worked together to transform an empty lot into a vibrant, inclusive play space that gives the children of our community a safe place to play, grow, and thrive. At Southway, our mission is to build and transform people, communities, and buildings with the purpose of serving others—empowering them to reach their fullest potential. Supporting initiatives like this aligns perfectly with our core values, and we are proud to have played a role in creating a brighter, more equitable future for the students of Mary Ann Winterling Elementary. ?? Breaking News: Southway Awarded the Carver Community Center Project in Wendell, NC! We are thrilled to announce that we have been selected for the adaptive-reuse conversion of the historic Carver School into the Carver Community Center at Pleasant Grove in Wendell, North Carolina. The Carver School site was originally home to one of the Rosenwald Schools, built in the early 1900s to provide African American students access to quality education. After the original building was damaged by fire in the mid-1900s, the Carver School was built in its place, serving the community until its closure in the early 1990s. Recently, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church acquired the building with a vision to rehabilitate it as a vibrant community center. Our work on this project will include shoring and preserving the exterior walls, removing the roof and floor structures, and creating new construction within the historic framework, along with carefully designed additions to enhance the property. The new community center will be a valuable resource for the Town of Wendell and all of Wake County, serving as a center for community engagement and a source of healing.
