?? Businesses are coming together to back the Bakerloo line upgrade & extension. ?? Support for the project just keeps growing as a new Business4Bakerloo campaign launches, headed up by Field Consulting UK. It’s brilliant to see the private sector recognise this opportunity for investment in our country’s infrastructure and construction, unified with one voice. The business community is amplifying our campaign efforts over many years on a project that will: ??? Drive national growth by delivering £1.5bn in gross added value per annum to the UK economy, securing London’s competitive global position and facilitating growth in the North of England ??♀? Support 150,000 jobs across the UK supply chain, providing a unique opportunity for economic growth in London & the North simultaneously ?? Deliver 107,000 new homes along the full length of the line ?? Accelerate our journey to net zero with 150,000 more public transport trips daily Our Leader Cllr Cllr Kieron Williams joined the Business for Bakerloo launch on Tuesday to show Southwark's support. As London boroughs work hard to regenerate our communities, London needs a modern and integrated network to match. Here in Southwark, we are committed to making this happen. If you are a business who wants to join and help fund the Business4Bakerloo campaign to make this project happen, do get in touch with the campaign at [email protected].

In October some of our schools gathered to celebrate amazing student-led environmental projects. From shampoo refill shops to protein-rich vegetarian menu options there was so much to shout about. We want to help more schools take up this kind of action, so we’ve launched a new free resource for schools to make a climate action plan. It will also help schools to comply with new Department for Education climate requirements. It includes an online guide for schools and a ready-made climate action plan template with examples. It has been made through work with educators, pupils and subject-matter experts at the council. There is an information webinar for educators happening next week, on Thursday 5 December at 4.30pm to ask questions and find out more. You can book your place through the schools climate action guide webpage. Special thanks to: Cllr Jasmine Ali Cllr John Batteson Tom Sharland Kasia McBride Tom Buttrick James Senior https://orlo.uk/NZg97

In the UK, a violent man kills a woman every three days. Seemingly small acts - like cat-calling - are fuelled by the same sexist attitudes that underpin full-blown violence against women. We produced this short film that shows what it's like to experience sexual harassment, encouraging men to see it from a different perspective. Take action this #WhiteRibbonDay. See it. Stop it.

We’re rounding off this week’s flood awareness week by celebrating the good work we do as a council to protect against flooding. It is timely after seeing the recent tragic flash floods in Spain. It showed how vulnerable towns and cities can be to freak weather caused by climate change. The good news is that right across Southwark, and London, there is lots of work being done to prepare our residents and infrastructure. Earlier this year we adopted our first climate resilience strategy which included actions to combat the increased risk of flooding. We are also leading a cross-London response to climate threats through London Councils’ resilient and green programme alongside Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea – which includes threats like flooding.??? ? There’s lots to do, but our work is already being recognised. The recent NHT Public Satisfaction Survey showed that we are number one in the country for dealing with flooding on the roads. Recently, we also updated our local flood risk strategy. It sets out how we will continue to secure and increase protections over the next five years. That includes a range of different projects to protect our residents and businesses from flood events like green drainage in parks and on our streets that help improve biodiversity as well as combat flooding.
