The pineapple is the international symbol of hospitality which is the reason the Chamber chose it for the award. ? The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce held an Out of the Box Learning two-part educational series on February 12th and 19th at the Chamber.?The presenter, Merikay Hunt, M.S., Coach MKay Companies, LLC is a dynamic, funny, real, and trusted professional dedicated to helping people be a catalyst for positive, purposeful change in their leadership development to build strong teams and impact on business results and customer experience.? On February 12th, the members of the Chamber learned strategies to effectively coach team members and empower them to develop their productivity skills, increased jobs satisfaction and awareness of company culture.? "I took Merikay Hunt's seminar "Coaching for Performance" through the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of?Commerce. It was so fun and informative. She is very personable?and really engaged with the participants and truly came up with solutions to help with our current?obstacles" I came back with really good skills to help my staff become the best they can be! The February 19th session entitled Multi-Generations in the Workplace focused on learning the unique styles of each generation to solve conflicts, improving communication and collaboration within the business.? The 2025 Coastal Consumer Showcase drew a large crowd as an estimated 350 people attended the annual event held at the St. James Homer E. Wright Event Center. Representatives from 66 local businesses were available to answer questions about the products and services they provide to the residents of the Southport-Oak Island area. Residents and visitors who attended the show were encouraged to register for a chance to win $100 in cash and numerous prizes in the Pick-A-Prize Auction. Colleen Parker of Oak Island was the lucky winner of the $100 prize. “Another successful event with tons of attendees and great interaction with the exhibitors. We look forward to next year!” -said Will Mitchell, chair of the Chamber’s 2025 Coastal Consumer Showcase Committee. The Chamber’s next event is the Coastal Health, Fitness and Beauty Showcase on Tuesday, March 11th from 4pm-7pm at the Homer E. Wright Event Center, 4136 Southport-Supply Road, St. James.?The Health, Fitness and Beauty Showcase is like the Coastal Consumer Show but focused on businesses in the health, fitness and beauty industries. The ladies of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce met on Tuesday, February 18th for the monthly Coffee with the Girls. This month’s speaker was Jenna Cooley Coaching, M.Ed., PCC, ELI-MP owner of Jenna Coley Coaching. Her topic was “Leading with Intention and Intuition”. Ms. Cooley discussed strategies for building intentionality and maximizing intuition. They include nurture self-awareness, engage in professional development, cultivate relationships with your peers, maximize mindfulness/quiet time/strategy time, partner with a mentor or coach, and reflect regularly with helpful tools. The next Coffee with the Girls will be held at 8:00am on Tuesday, March 18th at @capefeargymnastics Cape Fear Gymnastics and Fitness, 4633 Long Beach Road, Southport. The speaker will be Michele Hunt, Cape Fear Yoga and Wellness @capefearyogaandwellness. She will discuss the many benefits of Chair Yoga and Meditation. Coffee with the Girls is a network of women and men in the Chamber who meet monthly to discuss women related business issues and share helpful information and tips.
