When we published the SouthPark Forward 2035 Vision Plan in April, we promised that it would not sit on the shelf. Today, we're excited to fulfill one of the key recommendations in the Plan, and launch the SouthPark Skipper. This free microtransit service will offer free rides within the district every day from 9am-9pm, making it easier for workers, residents, and visitors to move around and advancing our region's shared transportation and economic development goals. ?? CATS was a partner in today’s launch of the SouthPark Skipper, a free rideshare service in the SouthPark business district. The SouthPark Skipper is part of a one-year pilot program fully funded by SouthPark Community Partners. Service will be available to the public starting tomorrow, Nov. 15. “The SouthPark Skipper introduces microtransit, a new mobility option, that aligns with the City of Charlotte’s strategic mobility plan, sustainability goals and CATS’s efforts and vision for microtransit in our regions,” Interim CEO of CATS Brent Cagle said. “We are pleased to partner with SouthPark Community Partners to promote this additional mobility option for existing and future transit riders and visitors to the area.” Download the CATS-Pass app to learn more about this new transit option. This morning, we gathered the SouthPark business community at Suffolk Punch to discuss ways to strengthen community with mobility innovation, and to celebrate tomorrow's SouthPark Skipper launch. Attendees heard from a panel of the region's top mobility leaders, including Geraldine Gardner of Centralina Regional Council, Mark Arizmendi of Northwestern Capital Partners LLC, and Jason Spiegel of Freebee, moderated by Ed McKinney of the City of Charlotte. We are excited to gather this group of leaders and to continue working towards a park-once, walkable, energetic community. SouthPark Community Partners, at its core, exists to serve the community. While we usually focus on the SouthPark district, we can't ignore the devastation that Western North Carolina communities have experienced as a result of last week's Hurricane Helene. During SouthPark After Five on October 3, the Charlotte community donated hundreds of supplies, from baby formula to water to gently used clothing and blankets, which were delivered on 16 pallets to a distribution area in Lake Lure. This was made possible with the help of Southern Entertainment. Additionally, the Red Cross hosted a blood drive where over 2 dozen people gave blood, thanks to organizing partners Albemarle Corporation. It is a privilege to serve our neighbors in need, and we urge everyone to consider making a supply, monetary, or blood donation to assist in continued relief efforts. The truck, provided by Southern Entertainment and Adams Beverages of NC, LLC, will be accepting donations at Symphony Park (4400 Sharon Rd., across from Dick's Sporting Goods at SouthPark Mall) from 12-9pm on Thursday, October 3. ?? All supplies will be accepted, with a particular need for water, nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, trash bags, baby formula, diapers, baby wipes, paper plates, and plastic utensils. ?? The American Red Cross will be on site accepting blood donations from 3-8pm, thanks to organizing partners Albemarle Corporation. This is important because Helene has caused the cancellation of 2,500 blood donations and created an urgent need for blood to support hospitals whose supply has been disrupted. ??
