We’re proud to share that SouthLight Healthcare has once again earned CARF accreditation, maintaining this distinguished mark of quality since 1996! This latest achievement is especially meaningful, as it designates SouthLight as North Carolina’s first and only Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) to be CARF-accredited, underscoring our dedication to high standards in mental health and addiction treatment. For 54 years, SouthLight has been committed to restoring lives and renewing hope. CARF accreditation reinforces our commitment to quality, client-centered care across North Carolina. Our Chief Strategy Officer, Kathryn Schley, LCSW, says: “The CARF accreditation of the CCBHC highlights our commitment to serve more people, more efficiently, with a focus on quality. In the wake of the recent devastation in Western NC, our communities are not only facing physical damage but also deep emotional impacts. Many are experiencing secondary trauma from witnessing or hearing about the destruction and loss. It's important to recognize these feelings and know there are ways to cope. In this blog by Jennifer Whitfield, we explore what secondary trauma is and how to find resilience and support. What a great day of connecting and collaborating at the Behavioral Health Summit, hosted by Wake County. Our CEO, Adam Hartzell served as a table facilitator. Krystal Lee, Director of Utilization Management , said, “It was great to network with community partners, and hear presenters speak on issues that are pertinent today, and spend time working on solutions to close barriers and gaps in services.” We were happy to share a table with our partner, Natalie Mabon with the Wake Local Reentry Council. Shout out to Max, the Wake Co. Sheriff Department’s dog, who was on hand to greet attendees (and has his very own business card). karen cook Erin Briggs Yates Kristin Cain William J. Ryan

"The moment I walked into the room, I was overcome with emotion. It was palpable. When we talk numbers, we think, “Wow, that is a lot of people…” But when you see the faces and read the stories of these beautiful souls, it puts into perspective the devastation of this disease. Substance dependence and addiction have no boundaries. It has a ripple effect, altering the lives of family and friends forever. It was so humbling," reflected Kathrine Irons, an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) Counselor intern with SouthLight. **** Over the weekend, SouthLight was honored to participate in the Black Poster Project in Wake County, a powerful event dedicated to raising awareness about addiction and overdose. The experience was deeply meaningful, highlighting the importance of accessible mental health and substance use treatment for all. SouthLight is proud to be part of the solution, providing essential services to our community. Joseph Laba, an OTP Counselor and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADAC) also represented SouthLight at the event, saying: "It was unreal to see the posters of all the people who died because of the fentanyl epidemic. I was able to talk to many people, including Freida MacDonald, CADCI, who founded the event and lost a child because of this disease." "One thing that really stood out to me was seeing the posters of multiple family members having lost their lives to this disease. One family lost three sons within just a few years of each other, with their mother also losing her life to substance use. I cannot even imagine how someone handles losing one child, let alone three. This impactful event will stay with me forever, and I hope it returns to Raleigh. I know it has the ability to save someone; it is too powerful not to," said Kathrine. "It was an honor for me to attend this event and represent SouthLight as a supporter and advocate, against the disease of addiction & mental illness. SouthLight employees are extremely diverse, skilled, qualified and educated at each unique role they perform to help individuals in the fight against addiction and saving lives," added Joseph. #southlighthealthcare #southlight #BlackPosterProject #WakeCounty #AddictionAwareness #OverdosePrevention #MentalHealthMatters #SubstanceUseTreatment Alliance Healthcare ALCOHOL/DRUG COUNCIL OF NORTH CAROLINA Healing Transitions
