At Southland, we believe in pairing human expertise with advanced technology to build a stronger, more capable workforce. With that vision, we’re thrilled to introduce 𝗧𝗔𝗖𝗞: 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, a certified apprenticeship program for welders. Approved by the Louisiana Workforce Commission in partnership with the Tangipahoa Parish School System, TACK is designed to give high school students the opportunity to 𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡—opening rewarding pathways into skilled trades. Through the 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, students will complete advanced curricula, including Welder II and Welding III, while gaining invaluable hands-on training in the field. Best of all, they’ll still enjoy the full high school experience, from participating in extracurriculars to walking the aisle at graduation with their peers. We’re confident this program will create a lasting impact—not just on our students, but on our community and the future of Southland. 🌟🌟 EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT🌟🌟 Karlie Gordon, a South Louisiana native, joined Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc. as a Purchaser in October 2023. In her role, she is responsible for procuring the structural materials necessary for each project. Before joining SSF, Karlie held various positions in a residential construction company and a global supply chain manufacturer. Although new to the steel fabrication industry, she quickly grasped the essentials of her role and developed a strong interest in the broader operations. With a passion for learning, Karlie is excited about her future at SSF and the opportunities ahead. Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and three children. In her free time, Karlie enjoys cooking, crafting, and exploring the outdoors. 🌟 EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT 🌟 Irene Carter, Tool Room Coordinator at Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc. in Greensburg, LA, brings a diverse background to her role. A graduate of Live Oak High School in Watson, Louisiana, Irene started her career at 19 in the medical field, working in pediatrics, family medicine, chiropractic, pharmacy, and hospital settings. Despite her extensive experience in healthcare, Irene found herself at Southland three years ago, where she has thrived. She credits her success to the unwavering support and belief in her potential from some very special people in her life. Irene is known for her strong work ethic and embraces Southland's positive, encouraging company culture. She thrives in an environment where managers and coworkers motivate each other to work harder and be more productive. Outside of work, Irene enjoys crafting personalized shirts for her children and grandchildren. She also loves spending time at her camp by the lake, relaxing on the porch with her poodle while watching her husband fish, enjoying the peaceful serenity of the great outdoors. 🌟 EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT 🌟 Christine (CeCe) Catchot has been a key member of our Quality department at Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc. since 2001. With experience as both a shop floor NDE Coordinator and an office-based Quality Specialist, she has a deep understanding of QA and QC. CeCe excels in tasks like welding procedures, weld mapping, drawing analysis, KPI reporting, and facility audits. She also managed NDE callouts and worked closely with third-party inspectors and shop foremen.
