Southern Roots Nut Company is a grower cooperative based in Las Cruces, NM. Located in the heart of the Mesilla Valley, our 86,000 square foot processing and distribution facilities have the capacity to process 175,000 inshell lbs daily. Our 120,000 sq ft cold storage in Dothan, AL, has the capacity to store 25 million lbs. We distribute the finest quality pecan products to 23 countries across the globe. Four years ago, I was fired from my job at ADM and not sure what I was going to do for work. I had invested my whole life and career into the pecan industry and could not stand the thought of doing anything else. A couple weeks after I was let go, pecan growers in Georgia were calling me telling me they had a big crop that year and needed help marketing their crops. I got on the next plane out to Georgia and setup my headquarters at our family farm in Albany. I hit the ground running the very next day running all over the state of Georgia pulling samples and helping growers sell their pecan crops all over the world. From these ashes, Southern Roots Nut Company was born. I never could have imagined at that time from such humble beginnings that Southern Roots Nut Company would become the largest pecan cooperative in the world in just 4 short years. Today, we have partnered with 34 of the largest pecan farms in 7 different states, from California to Georgia. We have an 86,000 sq ft processing and distribution facility in Las Cruces, NM, a 120,000 sq ft cold storage in Dothan, AL, and are building a new 55,000 sq ft processing facility next to our cold storage in Dothan. Every year on our anniversary, I like to take this time to reflect on where we have been and where we are today. I am so grateful to God for His blessings on me and this business and am so humbled that He decided to use this simple South Georgia redneck to do such miraculous things. A special thanks to my original founding partner, Jeff Childress, for believing in me and doing so much of the heavy lifting in getting Southern Roots up off the ground.
