The SPLC is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond
关于我们
The SPLC is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. We focus our legal, advocacy, and public education efforts on four major areas representing some of the most significant challenges facing the South and beyond: protecting voting rights and civic engagement; eradicating poverty in our Southern communities; dismantling white nationalism and protecting democracy; and decriminalizing and decarcerating Black and Brown people.

The fight for voting rights is far from over. Sixty years after the march in Selma, state legislatures are still working to erode the Voting Rights Act and silence marginalized communities. ??? “Honoring the foot soldiers of Selma isn’t just about looking back, it’s about channeling their courage into our collective organizing strategies today.” – Tafeni English-Relf, SPLC Sixty years ago, Lynda Blackmon Lowery risked her life for voting rights. Today, those rights are under attack again. The Voting Rights Act of 1965, once a cornerstone of democracy, has been weakened. Policies like voter ID laws, voter purges, and new restrictions are designed to silence marginalized voices. But just like in 1965, change comes through collective action. President Trump’s executive order declaring English as the official U.S. language aligns with a longtime goal of anti-immigrant hate groups like ProEnglish, founded by white nationalist John Tanton. By revoking language access requirements for federally funded organizations, this move creates new barriers for non-English speakers, further marginalizing communities that already face systemic challenges. Understanding the origins and impact of this decision is critical. #Hatewatch Here’s what you need to know. https://lnkd.in/gg4TYpF4

As Trump made clear in the first month of his second term, one of the goals of his administration is to reinscribe the hierarchies of race and gender. Trump has appointed cabinet members and staffers who have actively embraced conspiracy theories, bigotry and racism. These people could further dismantle the country’s hard-won civil rights infrastructure and deepen structural inequalities. Read more from #Hatewatch: https://lnkd.in/gJBG8B6W
