How It Works: 1. Surface Preparation – The part is cleaned to remove dirt, grease, or coatings that could interfere with the test. 2. Application of Penetrant – A liquid dye (fluorescent or visible) is applied to the surface and allowed to seep into any surface defects. 3. Dwell Time – The penetrant is left to sit, allowing it to enter any cracks or voids. 4. Excess Penetrant Removal – The surface is carefully cleaned, leaving penetrant only in defects. 5. Developer Application – A white powdery substance is applied, drawing the trapped penetrant out of defects. 6.
