Every year our Seniors have the opportunity to test their skills in a real world project. A house is selected in collaboration with local realtors and designers and each Senior is given a space for which they will redesign. Partnering with local furniture stores such as Anderson Design Center and J. Allan’s allows our students to completely redesign the space under a unified theme. Situated in “The Hub City” of Mississippi, the University of Southern Mississippi’s Interior Design program has direct access to influences throughout the South. Rich cultural backgrounds from New Orleans, Mobile, and Jackson offer students a melting pot of inspiration as they explore the exciting world of design. Here at Southern Miss we pride ourselves on offering our students the knowledge and resources that they need to be successful after they SOAR into alumni status. During their time at Southern Miss students engage in hands on learning through site visits, discovery field trips, and one-on-one collaboration with product reps and contractors. By integrating innovative technology into our semester projects, students learn programs such as Autodesk Revit, Sketchup, AutoCAD, Photoshop, and more making them more versatile when seeking employment. A message from our Program Chair Marissa Heath! “Join us for lunch and learns this semester which typically happen every Wednesday at noon starting the first week of September. We are excited to inform you that this year, we are implementing a new program aimed at providing our students with exposure to the design process at firms. If you happen to have a design studio or a live site in close proximity that our students could potentially visit, we kindly request that you inform us so that we may consider organizing a trip for our students. Calling All Graduates!! Another amazing opportunity from Amberly Holland ‘23. Thank You! “We are looking to add some additional Reveal PAs to our roster for an HGTV show based in southern Mississippi. No experience necessary to be a Reveal PA, but they must be local (or able to work as a local). They also must have a valid driver's license, be comfortable with lifting at least 50 pounds, and okay with driving large vehicles (cargo vans/small cube trucks). It's also a plus if they're interested in TV Production or Design! These positions will be available throughout June and July with potential to add other dates down the line.
