  • At this year’s CABE 2025 Conference, the Pacific Southwest Regional Organizing Committee (PSWROC) are proud Platinum level sponsors under the direction of SCDCL to help shine a spotlight on the Laborers LEARN program - powered by LIUNA Training – that we have established at the Palmdale Academy Charter School that provides a CTE education- Career and Technical Education- where STEM subjects are taught through a construction based approach. Our presence at CABE aimed to share that vision with other districts and community leaders committed to expanding opportunities for bilingual and multicultural students. During the conference, our Organizing Coordinator Ralph Velador connected with leaders like Andres Martinez from NASA and Raul Maldonado, Superintendent of the Palmdale School District. California State Superintendent Tony Thurmond addressed the crowd, reinforcing the importance of equity, inclusion, and access. The Palmdale Academy Charter mariachis helped open the conference in front of the LIUNA booth, a moment that beautifully represented culture, community, and connection. LEARN shows what’s possible when LIUNA and education come together. We’re proud to support programs that empower students from the classroom to their lifelong careers. Together, we learn. Together, WE RISE! #LaborersRising #SCDCL #LIUNA #CABE2025 #LaborersLEARN #UnionStrong #BilingualEducation #TogetherWeBuild #CommunitySupport #OpportunityThroughEducation

  • Laborers Rise to Support Kingdom Culture’s Community Center SCDCL knows when the community calls, the Laborers answer. Laborers Local 783 partnered with Pastor BJ Sims and Kingdom Culture San Bernardino to take on a demolition project that will help transform their facility into an even stronger resource for over 300 families which they serve. This is more than a center for worship, it’s a gathering place for the whole community. The center is home to their Family Resource Center, operating in partnership with Children and Family Services, and endorsed by Mayor Helen Tran and Chief Darren Goodman. In addition, it provides space for non-partisan community events like Coffee with a Cop, Democratic Club meetings, and other local initiatives that foster civic engagement. It’s where community leaders, law enforcement, and public officials come together to find real solutions to local issues. The Trust & Community Meetings, hosted here, bring in prominent local leaders like District Attorney Jason Anderson, Sheriff Shannon Dicus, Chief Darren Goodman of the San Bernardino Police Department, Thomas Sone (San Bernardino County Public Defender), Tracey Reese (Chief Probation Officer), and other community organizations. These meetings focus on crime reduction, public safety, and strengthening the community. The remodel, including a new stage and expanded space, will improve Kingdom Culture’s ability to serve the people of San Bernardino and improve the impact of their outreach. Laborers build strong projects, but we also stand with those making a difference. We’re proud to support Kingdom Culture as they continue their mission of service, connection, and community action. Together, We Build. Together, We Rise! #LaborersRising #CommunitySupport #TogetherWeBuild #SCDCL #Local783 #SanBernardino #UnionStrong #KingdomCulture

  • Week after week, our members show up at City and County meetings all over Southern California to make sure projects move forward. On February 25, 2025, two major projects secured unanimous 5-0 approvals, moving forward with strong support. When LIUNA members stand behind a project, decision-makers take notice, paving the way for approvals and opportunities for our members. Approved (5-0) - Riverside County Board of Supervisors – Approved the Thousand Palms Logistics Center by Majestic Realty Co. The project includes a 1,238,992 sq. ft. warehouse/distribution/manufacturing facility on 82.99 acres. Approved (5-0) - Gardena City Council– Approved the 1450 Artesia Specific Plan by 1450 Artesia Acquisition Company, LLC. The project consists of a 268,000 sq. ft. commercial/industrial building on 6.3 acres at Artesia Blvd & Normandie Ave. Our members presence at these hearings shows that when developers choose to work with LIUNA, they get projects passed, and that are built right with a skilled workforce ready to get the job done. #SCDCL #LaborersRising #UnionStrong #Infrastructure #EconomicGrowth #TogetherWeBuild

  • This past weekend, SCDCL hosted and brought together current and future Stewards under the National Pipe Line Agreement (NPLA) for an important training session. Led by Luke Johnson, LIUNA Director of Pipeline, the training covered the NPLA from front to back, ensuring our Stewards are equipped with the knowledge and leadership skills needed to protect our craft jurisdiction and document project activity. LIUNA Pacific Southwest has been steadily increasing the pipeline man-hours which makes this training all the more important. We know that strong, well-trained Stewards are essential to ensuring our work remains Union Strong. This session gave participants knowledge of the NPLA and insights from Luke’s experience as a Pipeline Laborer, Steward, Foreman, General Foreman, and Assistant Superintendent. It encouraged discussion and knowledge-sharing among members with firsthand experience in the field. As this work continues, we remain committed to preparing our members to lead and protect our work. A strong pipeline steward means a strong future for our union. #LaborersRising #PipelineStrong #UnionLeadership #TogetherWeBuild #SCDCL #LIUNA
