Join SCAG on April 1 for the “Expanding Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure in Under-Resourced Areas†Toolbox Tuesday session exploring innovative strategies to bring zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) to under-resourced communities. The distribution of ZEV charging infrastructure across the SCAG region has not extended into many areas of persistent poverty. This Toolbox Tuesday session will show how local governments can expand ZEV infrastructure in such areas by increasing the number of pole-mounted chargers and creating public-private partnerships for electric vehicle-sharing, among other efforts. SCAG's Chief Government and Public Affairs Officer Javiera Cartagena traveled to Washington D.C. last week as a member of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce's ACCESS D.C. delegation. During the trip, Cartagena met with Rep. Julia Brownley (D-Thousand Oaks), who serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, to discuss SCAG's priorities for the next Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill.

The program guidelines for the Surface Transportation Block Grant/Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (STBG/CMAQ) call for project nominations have officially been approved. These guidelines incorporate lessons from previous nominations, streamline the application process, and align with the goals of Connect SoCal 2024 and federal performance management priorities. With $1.2 billion in federal funding available for eligible transportation initiatives in federal fiscal years 2026-27 and 2027-28, the call for project nominations opens on March 31 and will remain open until May 16.
