Promoting responsible energy choices that work to address impacts of global #climatechange.

关于我们

Founded in 1985, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) is a nonprofit organization that promotes responsible and equitable energy choices that work to address the impacts of global climate change and ensure clean, safe, and healthy communities throughout the Southeast. As a leading voice for energy policy in our region, SACE works to protect the quality of life and treasured places in the Southeast. Our dedicated and diverse staff is poised to tackle our region’s energy challenges and harness the economic opportunities presented by clean renewable energy. SACE advocates for federal, state and local climate solutions, energy efficiency programs and policies, and renewable energy development such as solar, wind, and sustainable bioenergy. We promote clean fuels and vehicles, oppose high-risk nuclear and coal-fired power plant expansion, and encourage the retirement of old, dirty inefficient coal-fired power plants in our region. For over 30 years, SACE has worked as a strong defender of the environment, challenging the status quo and working to minimize the impact of the energy sector on our region’s communities, natural resources, and economies. We are committed to ensuring that communities throughout the Southeast never have to choose between a healthy environment and a stable economy.

  • If you're looking for 1?? action to take this month, let it be this: Communities throughout the Southeast are benefitting from clean energy policies that clean our kids' air, lower our power bills, and create good-paying jobs. Yet thanks to the influence of corporate polluters, some members of Congress are still calling for eliminating them. ?? Send an email to your members of Congress today, asking them to protect and expand clean energy programs and incentives: ow.ly/GoOs50VhxGl #CleanEnergyGeneration

  • The Southeast has long underused energy efficiency programs that would offer significant cost savings for both customers and utilities??The Volunteer State, unfortunately, is no exception. So what do these percentages mean? Energy savings are often measured in megawatt hours and then expressed as a percentage of the amount of energy sold by a utility or within a state. In the Southeast, 1% is often considered a respectable benchmark for energy efficiency performance. To learn how YOUR state stacks up, check out our latest "Energy Efficiency in the Southeast" report: bit.ly/SACEEEReport24LP

Working to provide a clean energy future.

What a great day to share in the culmination of a Home Energy Makeover completed by the The Sustainability Institute at a home in North Charleston, SC. This home is modeled to achieve a 72% energy savings. Items such as new appliances, HVAC, heat pump water heater, insulation, and the icing on the cake of solar helped achieve these savings. Wouldn't it be great to see this throughout South Carolina? That's the dream. 3/19/25 update. For more information check out the blog: https://lnkd.in/e_EsfucA

    Accelerating transportation electrification

To keep or kill the #EV tax credits, that's the question. Answer: Keep them all. The EV manufacturing, commercial, and consumer tax credits were designed to complement one another by expanding domestic EV and battery manufacturing, creating American jobs, securing domestic supply chains, and encouraging EV adoption. Nearly?one in five?cars sold globally is now electric. In 2024, a record?1.3 million EVs?were sold in the US, a 7.3% year-over-year increase that outperformed the 2% increase in nationwide sales of gas vehicles. To ensure American workers benefit from this global growth, Congress should preserve existing EV manufacturing, commercial, and consumer tax credits and ensure that automakers build these EVs and batteries in the US. These credits have already unleashed over $215 billion in announced private-sector EV and battery investments and created 238,000 jobs. Consider this study reported on by Stephen Edelstein: Researchers from Princeton University's REPEAT Project recently determined that?without the consumer EV tax credit, "EV sales in the US could decrease 30% by 2027 and nearly 40% by 2030.?Such a slowdown could lead to 100% of planned expansions of US EV assembly plants being canceled and could make 29% to 72% of US battery-manufacturing capacity redundant, according to the study. Factories that are idled—or never built in the first place—mean fewer jobs. And based on the distribution of current EV-related manufacturing projects, red states could be hit the hardest." Congress, particularly Republican senators and representatives from districts with investments and jobs at stake, must understand that eliminating any of the tax credits will weaken domestic EV and battery production and the domestic EV market, thereby delivering the global EV market to Chinese automakers and battery producers, and undercutting American workers and undermining America's supply chain security. • From a conservative Florida county switching to electric school buses to Tennessee refusing to pump the brakes on its EV charger program, the #CleanEnergyGeneration is making progress every day here in the Southeast. Take a look at just six of the many signs of progress ??

  • ?? ACTION ALERT: It's Pi Day and way more than 3.14 jobs are on the line. Send an email to your members of Congress today, asking them to protect federal clean energy legislation like clean energy tax credits: ow.ly/7LZa50VcRJo Here's what this administration is threatening to slice ??: ?? Billions in clean energy investments toward the Southeast that create thousands of good-paying jobs ?? Tax credits that have allowed hundreds of thousands of Southeast households, including low-income households, to lower their utility bills ?? Funds that have created cleaner air for our children to breathe by making it easier to swap polluting energy sources with clean solutions #PiDay

    Accelerating transportation electrification

Ever been to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory? Me neither, but touring the Thomas Built Buses plant in High Point, NC, to watch electric buses being built was almost as fun for this #EV geek. We spent a few hours watching it all come together, from robotic sheet metal fabrication to the welding of the body, the sci-fi-worthy paint room, the installation of flooring, windows, and seats, the joining of the body to the chassis, and the electric school bus plugging in to the on-site charging hub. The union plant's smooth operation and the teamwork on the floor were impressive. Thomas Built builds electric and diesel buses on the same production line, one after another. The only difference is whether the body is affixed to a chassis equipped with a clean and efficient electric drive train or a dirty and inefficient diesel drive train. And yes, I have a bias, having rode on a diesel exhaust-scented school bus for 12 years. Pee-yew! That is why school buses are my favorite use case for EVs. Electric school buses measurably improve the air quality our bus-riding children breathe daily while, as with all #EVs, reducing climate pollution and lowering operational expenses. School bus regulations ensure that buses are built exceptionally well to keep kids safe from crashes, but they do nothing to protect kids from breathing toxic exhaust. I dream my grandkids (no pressure, kiddos) will ride electric buses and never know that smell. Thanks to Chris Foster at Thomas Built and Roy Parks at Carolina Thomas, LLC, for the tour! #electricvehicles #electricschoolbuses #manufacturing #transportation #climateaction #publichealth #cleanenergygeneration
