关于我们
We offer Bachelor of Science degrees with concentrations in Integrative Biology; Ecology, Environmental, and Evolutionary Biology; Microbiology & Molecular Biology; Plant Science; Biology Education; and Business. Our graduates are successful in finding biology-related jobs and continuing on to graduate and professional programs, including veterinary and medical schools. Our Master of Science program has either a thesis or non-thesis track, and consists of 30-36 hours of study. Most students complete the program in two years, and then are competitive for careers in biology or for continuing on to doctoral programs.

Here's what some of our people--undergraduate students, master's students, and professors--are doing. The microbiology group has grown in the last couple years!
Our first visit to the annual meeting of the South Central Branch of the American Society for Microbiology, held in conjunction with the Kentucky-Tennessee Branch, in Memphis this past weekend. Eight of us from my lab presented, as did one from Penny Shockett, and six from Pradip Panta's. Lots of great science and networking! Thanks to Victoria DeBarbieris, Dahlia Alkadi, Hydee Holsapple, Logan Jarrell, Matt Matthews, Folorunsho Kukoyi, Kaleb Warren and the others in the images.

That's what 1,000 pounds of plastic will get you. Over the past year, the Department of Biological Sciences participated in the Trex recycling program. We reached our goal in 51 weeks. Thus bench will relocate to the 3rd-floor balcony soon. We are a few weeks into our second challenge, and already have over 100 pounds. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

Two undergraduates working in the Department of Biological Sciences presented today at LSU's Summer Undergraduate Research Forum. They were both awarded summer research fellowships through #LBRN. Dahlia Alkadi presented a poster on "The Role of the Isoprenoid Biosynthesis Pathway in Extreme Colistin Resistance of Burkholderia thailandensis." She works with Dr. Pradip Panta. Evan Ransom shared a poster entitled "Virus Hunters: diversity of bacteriophages of soil bacteria in Louisiana soil." He is mentored by Dr. Justin Anderson.
