Founded in 1985, Southeast Missouri Food Bank’s basic purpose is to Reach More, Help More, Feed More. The simple statement serves as a visionary and meaningful summary of Southeast Missouri Food Bank’s goals, while expressing exactly what it is The Food Bank does. In addition to food distribution and services to 180 nonprofits, SEMO Food Bank has direct-service programs such as the Backpack for Fridays Program, Truck to Table Mobile Food Pantry, ABC (A Better Childhood) Pantry and more. Southeast Missouri (SEMO) Food Bank is the Feeding America network food bank for southeast Missouri, serving more than 180 hunger-relief organizations across 16 Missouri counties. We are also a part of Feeding Missouri a coalition of six food banks serving the state. SEMO Food Bank reaches nearly 58,000 individuals each month with food assistance and distributes more than 8 million pounds of food annually. SMFB has earned the Better Business Bureau accreditation and follows their set of standards for charitable accountability. Our distribution facility in Sikeston Missouri has also received “superior” AIB International food safety certifications. We are always looking for volunteers. On Wednesday, we gathered with representatives from our 140 partner agencies for a day filled with learning and networking at our annual Agency Conference. This event is always a highlight for us, uniting passionate individuals committed to ending hunger in southeast Missouri. Guest Speaker Elder Courtney Sanders reminded us all of the power of partnership and the strength of a servant's heart. We also took the opportunity to celebrate the incredible work of our partners with some special awards: ?? Karen E. Green Distinguished Service Award: Donna Gales, Garden Shed Food Pantry ?? Agency of the Year: Helping Hand Food Pantry ?? SEMO Food Bank's staff capped off #HungerActionMonth last week with an afternoon of bowling and friendly competition. During the month of September, our staff pulled together for many events and activities, helping raise awareness about food insecurity and encouraging everyone to join the movement to end hunger.

We're thrilled to share that Joey Keys, CEO of SEMO Food Bank , was honored this week at the B Magazine "Difference Makers" reception! A few of our staff and board members were there to celebrate Joey, who was recognized for his outstanding leadership both at work and in the community. Under his guidance, the food bank has navigated tough times, including an unprecedented pandemic, and has expanded with a new location and developed new direct service programs. Whew, what a week!!! Now that we've recovered from all the?Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo?fun, we can take a moment to reflect and express some gratitude. Thank you to everyone who helped?#GiveHungertheBoot, whether through donating to the campaign or purchasing a shirt. Thank you to our staff, and their loved ones, who volunteered time throughout the week and participated in?#StampedeWeek?activities. And, most especially, thank you to the Sikeston Jaycees, for you continued partnership and dedication to the fight to end hunger in southeast Missouri. We'll be ready to saddle up again next rodeo!
